Ok......sorry to ask a stupid question.....I know Jek is supposed to be a derogatory name for the Chinese. But, what is the normal name for Chinese in Lao/Thai???

In Khmer we call the Chinese.......Jen.
If we want to poke fun at them there's a little kiddie rhyme that Khmer kids grew up singing.

It goes something like this:

Jen Kataang See Bai Kadaang........Jen (Chinese) Kataang (Teochew???) See (Eat) Bai (Rice) Kadaang (Burnt Rice stuck on the bottom of the cooking pot)

There are two types of Chinese in Khmer......Jen Kataang & Jen Kajiel (Teochew/ Mandarin/ Manchu???) don't really know the difference honestly).

I heard one would be for Chinese born & raised in Cambodia & the other would be for Chinese born & raised in China/ Hong Kong......but, couldn't tell which is which.

The real Jek is in M'sia... They think that they can establish a Han kingdom on others' area... I don't know why China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan aren't eanough, they had also hi-jek-ed Singapore (Si Thammasok) and it's quite strange to see a Han kingdom who speak English in South East Asia... Some area in M'sian states too became hi-jeke-ed as Han kingdom because political parties of Malay people are afraid of being regarded as racist by Jek who are the actual racist thick face who are the voters for Democratic Action Party and Malaysian Chinese Association Party which are obviously Jek political parties that exist due to British dogs colonialism... I'm not calling Thai citizen as Jek, they must be a Thai and it is OK they acknowledge themselves as Chinese as long as they don't look down to native people!

you must be one of those who work for chinese malaysian. how could you expect the ethnic minorities namely, chinese and tamil to be whole hearted loyal to malaysia and your malay UMNO controlled government when they are treated like a second class citizen. Why reserve uni places for dumb malays when smart chinese are missing out?? why chinese malaysian owned companies have to have at least one malay as a share holder? Subsidised housing are offered to malay and noone else?? just because you let the chinese kept their chinese name doesnt mean that you can treat them anyway you want.

They are being treated unfairly, yet do you see them blowing themselves up, asking for independence like the muslims in thailand or around the world? the answer is NO! No chinese malaysian wants to establish your Han kingdom in Malaysia you dumb arse. chinese thrives everywhere they go mate.

A malay like you calling jeks racist, you muslim retard PAS supporter. dont worry, educated chinese malaysians are moving out of malaysia. if malaysia didnt have large population of ethnic chinese, malaysia would just be another laos. We, SEAian Chinese controls SEA economy, remember that you Muslim babi.

btw, stoping cliaming you are siamese because you are not. you dont practice anything siamese. go back to your terrorist training camp in pakistan.
sonofgunongjerai
I'm a practical Buddhist dude and also revering Lord Viganed, Malay are usually Muslim and many Buddhist P Nong call them as Khek just like Jek because they were previously of Indian ancestry, but Buddhist like myself too has Indian ancestry. Ancient Indian are those who established kingdoms in ancient SEA and it seems that natives can accept their culture and the culture evolved to be local cultures as we see today....

How do you know I'm a Muslim? Because I'm from South Thai and some people greet me with Assalamoalaikom? Well, Assalamoalaikom have the same meaning with Swaddekhrap, wishing everyone prosperity and sabai... I use to say Asalamoalaikmom to Malay Muslim and they don't realize my religious identity because they can't differentiate my appearance with their own people embarassedlaugh.gif If I talk about Muslim people and coming from the region near South Thai, does it mean I am a Muslim? I do have Muslim relatives who are married to Malays and my maternal grandma is also a Muslim while we follow my maternal grandpa who is a Buddhist. My father's grandpa is a Keralite Hindu, pig and cow are not suitable dishes for our caste because pig is only the food for paupers and cow is holy instead of we are Buddhists, it's just cultural matters... Any problem? Well, yeah, since last election I had chosen PAS as our state government administrator and we had abandoned stupid UMNO... Yeah, actual racist people who treat others are those who first throwing accusations to others... I had been living in Chinese area for almost 15 years of my life. I know how they behave and not simply generalizing them. It's hard to find Jek M'sia who are not racist and btw, if you're not racist who are you because a racist must have a race isn't it?

This is the temples I had visited and paying homage to, when I visit my relatives in Siamese village in Kalantan and Kalantan is still administrated by PAS. Only stupid Siamese go for British lickers UMNO and other component parties and DAP... PAS never kill us or discriminating us, instead I learned from the abbots of Wat Machimmaram that PAS had donated for the construction of Wat Machimmaram and reapairing several other Wats...

Wat Pothiviharn

Wat Phikunthong

Than Dum, Royal and Chief Monk of Kalantan with the title Ta Ratcha serving the palace... Who says local Muslim kings forget their root?

Wat Machimmaram

Well, are you a Jek? I thought that you are a Thai? Because as far as I know, only Malaysia has Jek and they came here in large number when their British master invited them embarassedlaugh.gif ...
sonofgunongjerai
I don't eat babi (pig) anymore since I had been living with different Malay roomates from Kalantan for 3 years in my varsity and they also never force me to be a Taleban like in Pakistan embarassedlaugh.gif ... Urm yeah, Chinese people in M'sia always wanted to migrate to prosperous country like OZ, the US, the UK, Canada, or etc instead of going back to Holy Land Zhong Guo or just looking down to non-Chinese people although we had already humbled ourselves speaking in Holy Jek Mandalin language and forcefully has to learn mosquito characters.... I wonder, why not choosing to develop Somalia or Ethiopia, or Nigeria instead? I guess they need you people more than us and I think that Laos is not really that bad undeveloped country. We and Lao people never ask you people to develop the forest in our countries and we know we came from forest, unlike some Jek who can't remember that they came from Tiong San (Middle Hill) embarassedlaugh.gif ... Some Chinese Towkeys too are making profit by selling Qiao Po and one of a Siamese lady had told me her experience when her flirting husband had left her for a Fujian China doll after making her bowing down to his Chinese ancestors and speaking in Thai with Chinese accent.... Also selling marbles by leveling down to ground our beautiful mountains for money... They are also selling pirated DVD and some of them became illegal workers in the UK, and as the result, Malaysia had been regarded as the exporters of illegal workers and most of them or should we say all of them are Jek. There are also Jek in Japan but so strange it is that they are more racist to Chinese people who are their own people embarassedlaugh.gif

Malaysians left stateless in UK in row over colonial law

2009/10/11

LONDON, Sun: Hundreds of Malaysians who tore up their passports and set off for Britain in the belief they could claim citizenship under a quirk of colonial law have found themselves stateless and desperate.

“Dee”, a trained architect from Penang, is now reduced to washing dishes in a Chinese restaurant in central London — a victim, he says, of a “citizenship that is not real.”

“I have become an illegal immigrant... actually even worse because at least they have their own country to go back to. I don’t,” the 34-year-old told AFP.

A little-known legal clause gave residents of Penang and Malacca the status of British Overseas Citizenship (BOC) when Malaysia gained independence in 1957.

Ethnic Chinese in the two regions that were part of a British colony in the former Malaya, wary of discrimination under an independent nation dominated by Muslim Malays, had sought assurances they could resort to residing in Britain.

Immigration activists say that a few hundred Malaysians took up citizenship, most of them eventually being granted the right after residing in Britain for more than five years in the 1980s and 1990s.

Immigration laws tightened up in 2002, ending any chance for Malaysian BOCs to register as British citizens.

But confusion over the change, combined with shady immigration lawyers out to make a buck, meant many Malaysians continued to pursue applications. Dee, who had seen many BOC friends successfully gain citizenship, applied in 2003.

Ben Scaro, an Australian lawyer who advocates their cause, says the situation became messier as cases were left unresolved for years, and letters sent in 2005 told applicants they could not proceed unless they showed they had lost Malaysian citizenship.

As a result, a large number of BOCs including Dee renounced their Malaysian citizenship — a process that is extremely difficult to reverse.

“I filled up the forms to renounce my citizenship and my Malaysian passport was cut up,” Dee says.

”I was told by the officials at the Malaysian High Commission here that I was no longer a Malaysian citizen.”

“What makes it worse is the British government saying it’s very hard to renounce Malaysian citizenship and declaring we are still Malaysian while the Malaysian government says we are not Malaysian anymore but British. Its crazy.”

Sealing their fate, an Asylum and Immigration tribunal in July 2008 ruled that Malaysian BOCs who have or had Malaysian citizenship do not have a right to reside in Britain.

“We are looking at a situation where nearly 1,000 Malaysians who have given up their citizenship are now BOCs but have no right to stay in the UK,” Ben Scaro said.

It also ruled that a Malaysian BOC does not lose their Malaysian citizenship by applying for a BOC passport or renunciation of Malaysian nationality.

“The British Home Office effectively orchestrated the BOCs’ statelessness,” Scaro said.

“It said if you can prove you are not Malaysian your case can go forward, so of course the BOCs are going to go to the Malaysian High Commission and renounce.

“And then once they had renounced, then the decision comes along, saying the BOC will no longer be a path to citizenship.” Malaysian constitutional lawyers also disagree with the British tribunal’s interpretation of Malaysian law.

“If a Malaysian has gone through the renunciation process and followed the procedure, then the person is no longer a Malaysian citizen,” prominent lawyer Malik Imtiaz Sarwar told AFP in Kuala Lumpur.

“Of course, Malaysia would not allow the citizen to renounce its citizenship without having another citizenship but as far as the government is concerned the British Overseas Citizenship, as its name implies, is another citizenship.

“If these Malaysians follow the procedures, in these circumstances, they end up being stateless.”

Edmund Yeo, a Malaysian citizen who is an elected councillor in Ealing, West London, says that only the British government can now resolve the dilemma.

“The British government gave them that right, they were born and you called them BOC in Malaysia... and now you want to remove yourself from this problem, that’s not right,” he told AFP in his office near London’s Chinatown.

“These people can be turned into very productive citizens who pay taxes.

These are not economic refugees, they did not come in the back of a lorry. They walked in the front door saying they are claiming citizenship, so give it to them.”

London Citizens, a civic group campaigning for the BOC, organised a major rally in July to urge the British government to legalise long-term illegal residents who are hardworking and contribute to society.

“People who have been here for more than four years, show evidence that they are good citizens, non-criminals, willing to contribute, we ask the government to give them a two-year work permit and during the period if they get a strong reference from their employer, we ask they be made legal,” said organiser Joy Lam.

“The Malaysian BOCs are a small group of people and they are stateless so our first priority is to try and get them indefinite leave to remain.”

However, a UK Borders Agency spokesperson, in a written response to AFP, said the government was sticking to the ruling of the tribunal.

“Being a BOC is not the same thing as having British citizenship and does not give people an automatic right to live in the UK,” she said.

“We do not believe that these individuals are stateless and the courts agreed. Anyone in the United Kingdom illegally should leave voluntarily. If they do not, they are liable to be removed.”

For Dee, the situation remains bleak. “Malaysia will not take me and I have lived in the UK for 11 years,” he said. “I am British, I have lived here for more than a third of my life and I am willing to work hard so why don’t they just let me?" - AFP

Lol... Don feel bad about it K.Arroi... I know Thai Chinese are patriotic and loyal to Maharat... I just want Lao members to know that Thai Chinese are different to the rest since they had assimilated well in Thai society, but I can't tolerate Chinese in Kuala Lumpur attitude... They are in fact very arrogant...

Urmm, we had already know civilization since before British came in with those labors that they had tyrannized, are you going to say that Lord Buddha is some kind of barbarian or something because we had gotten his teaching since before those Malay kings of South Thai and Northern Malaysia side convert to Islamic faith, well we don consider ourselves as different from them, only the difference in religion and that stupid political UMNO party is leaded by some Malay pretenders who are actually Javanese immigrants from Indonesia... British burned estates n killed Tamilian labors in Perak before Japanese came in from Songkhla and nobody knows about this in International world and not all of the Indian and Chinese immigrants in Malaysia today are of labor generation, some of them are professionals who live in the city with British dogs...

Why some people badly hate Muslims as whole and grouping them as Arabs or Pakistani? 15% of Arabia land population are of Oriental Christian faith and of Judaism faith and they are semites, I thought that Semites people had suffered anti-semitism while Jews and Arabs are of Semite race. Are they having converted family member to other religion or they aren't tolerant to their converted family member or not exposed to people of different cultures and backgrounds? I don't really mind Muslim people because they do attending Wat festivals and some of them too attending my initiation ceremony in Wat because we have caste system, today, it's just a symbolism because we also consider ourselves as Hindu while practicing Buddhism principles. My Muslim relatives too sending donation during ancestral worship ceremonies although they aren't obviously involved in the worship and prayers...

However, I will knock my relatives or siblings head to death if they convert to Christianity because British dogs who colonized us with tricks are primarily Christians and particularly Anglicans, they are the liars and I don't want to hear anything about their culture or religion though I was forced to learn about their rule history in Federal Government of Holy Sh-It M'sia during the past colonialism period in our history class during I'm in form three (15 years old) at my school.

I listened to Hindi and Urdu songs of Pakistan beside watching their movies too because Holy Sh-T M'sia is not really a nationalist country and not only listening to Thai songs or Malay songs or watching our local movies in both Thai and M'sia TV station... M'sian TV stations showing programs from foreign countries without any dubbings of voice so we hear them freshly from the native speakers and there is a two TV stations serving Chinese citizen of M'sia and about three radio stations fully in Chinese with both Mandarin and Cantonese language and sometimes Fujianese... As to say, I won't make quick assumption on others' before I experienced or looking at it myself and concerning Jek in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, I had experienced it, no bias but simply true things... If it is good things, I won't mind stating it... If it is negative things, I won't mind stating it too. I do criticized my folk who are the local Siamese here for doing wrong things such as drinking alcoholic drinks and sleeping while drunk in front of others' houses like dogs, or practicing black magic which is not favored by Lord Buddha...

I love India and Pakistan... All Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Si Lanka, n SEA are apart of Greater India in Ancient era and I don't know that the civilization is measured only through British or French colonialism. I do read Mahabhrata, Ramakien of various versions name it, Valmigi, Kamban, Tulasidast, Javanese Ramayana, Malay Ramayana, Purannas, Tipidok, Manu Smarthi, Bhagavadgita, and also other traditional sources like Marong Mahavong chronicle of northern Malays which also mentions their pre-Islamic history and they protected Langkawong Buddhism Principles... I don't really care about stupid UMNO party because they are liars and they are just the same as British dog... Vernacular language system school in Malaysia is the only unique system that you can't find in any other countries and it was promoted by British dog who is Lord Reid and accepted by stupid UMNO... Our Phra Chao had earlier being deceived and after that suppressed to sign the treaty for M'sia... Malaysia of 1957 till now consists of 14 countries in it who joined M'sia through treaty whether forced or simply because they're directly under British Protectorate. Every sane and matured M'sian Bumiputra knows about this and about their region and Bumiputera is the term made by British dog because they actually know their fault of suddenly bursting in others' countries. Brunei is luckier, they didn't join Holy Sh-it M'sia or supposed to be known as British Malaya in the pretext of independent M'sia, Bruneians are rich barbarians as hell embarassedlaugh.gif ...

Pakistani MV in Urdu, I like it...

Below Indian MV in Hindi actually in half Punjabi dialect... It seems like both language are the same, but this Indian singer is a Hindu because his name is Kailash Kher and I understand what he sings because we were Indianized SEAns and as long there are Sansakrit words there in their language... Kailash is the epithet of Siwa and I am also revering Lord Viganed in certain times to remove problems... Lord Viganed is Siwa elder son...

In Hmong we call them "shoua". English pronouciation btw.

I don't think there is a distintion for what dialects they speak since it's like an umbrella term.

"shoua" (Swa) is not Xia. Xia is pronounced "Xyaj" in the Hmong RPA. Notice the difference in Consonant. We pronounce Chinese "suav" using the "s" and "xyaj" (Xia) using the "x". The tones aren't even the same also. Shoua uses the "v" tone while "xia" uses the "J" tone.

To my knowledge, the word "xyaj" has no significance and is not used in the Hmong language though we could pronounce it just like the Mandarin pronounciation.

Is "Xia" has anything to do with Xia dynasty of ancient China? Some people said "Xia" dynasty is the first dynasty of China and then goes to "Shang." Are you a China national of Hmong ethnicity?

Where is Han dynasty? And where is Tang dynasty?

I've checked back in Malay Classical Texts in my school textbook... We have to learn them during my schooling time 7 years ago. I still have those books because my father said we have to keep knowledge, it's the symbol of sarasvadee and phra phrom... Chinese in 14th C Malay state of Malacca (in South Malaysia) are known as Tang people... They are different from those of Ming dynasty... 14th C according to historical record is the time where Ming dynasty functioning their rule... Are Ming people the same people with Tang people? Tang people supposedly are the people of Tang dynasty right?

Stop it Lengchai. Swa derived from the word Xia.
The ancient Chinese called themselves Xia. The Xia were the ones that fought with the tribe (Kuj Cuab Cuaj Hlig Ntuj) of Chiyou and the later after the death of Chiyou, the Jiuli tribe formed the Vaj Hmoob (san miao).
Xia is pronounce "SAB" or SHA in Chinese.

Just like the word Miao derived from the word Hmong (Meng).

If you study history, you will learn that our ancestors called the ancient Chinese "SHA" but gradually,
it changes to SUAV, which still mean the same. Just like PENGYOU in Chinese and PHONGYUE in Hmong which mean friend.
SHH-FU and XI-HUE or XI-FUE in Hmong which mean master or teacher.

Just like Chinese called yellow emperor = QIN HUANGDI
While we called yellow emperor = TSE HUA TAI

Tai and Di pronounce differently.
Hua and Huang pronounce differently.
Qin and Tse pronounce differently.
In context, it refers to the same person known as QIN HUANGDI or TSE HUA TAI (emperor) in the Hmong language.

Simple as that.

In context, the word XIA(SHA) = SWA (chinese).
The ancient Chinese called themselves XIA. Our ancestors called the ancient Chinese that invaded our land as SWA.
Our ancestors called themselves MENG (mong), the ancient Chinese called us MIAU.

I can't understand it.... So, is that Hmong are Chinese? Or Han are Chinese? Who are the Han and Hmong exactly and how different are they? I just know that when we speak Bei Fang Hua, we will say Han Ren when we refer to Chinese ethnic... If the overseas Han, we will say Hua Qiao... Is Hua Qiao and Han different or the same? I'm sorry, I just know mainstream story about China but not ethnicities story... Thanks...

Do you have Chinese character for Hmong (Meng)? I need to see it...

The Hmong came from the lower basin of the Yellow River. They were pushed out by the expanding Xia Chinese in ancient time.
The Chinese are often called "outsiders" in our culture. In religious rituals, the Chinese are depicted as "invaders" that invaded the land.
Because the Hmong lost their land, in burial rituals, they must perform a ritual known as "fight off the invaders" in order for the decease to journey home peacefully.

The Chinese are mention in almost every Hmong folk stories.

I would have to say that Hmong and Han are like mirror.
I don't know about Chinese oral, but as Hmong, the ancient Xia were regarded as little brothers.
In Chinese, "dream" is "meng xiang" which is pronounce "MONG SHA."
In Hmong, "dream" is "bo swa" which means "chinese" as well.

We called Chinese, "Nang Swa."
Nang in Hmong = people (ren)
Swa in Hmong = refer to the dominant Chinese group.

Hhhmm... never thought it that way plus, never heard before.

The Mandarin word for freedom is Ping i think. Our word for freedom is Yueping. Is it a loan word?

I heard "To" as in Tofu refers to beans in mandarin. Our word for soybean is Tau (Tao). Again, loan word?

Dr. Yia Lee suggested that we had lived with Mandarin speakers for a long time. We got alot of AGRICULTURAL loan words.

Yang= sheep in Mandarin. Same for us. Didn't you say that mandarin word for Ox/cow is the same for us?
tutorboy
It could be vice versa.
I did learned that the ancient Chinese have consonants KL and QL like our language.
Today, all Miao groups still have these KL and QL consonants, but not the Chinese.

The Mandarin language is very mixed. It's a dialect spoken during Qing Dynasty. Heavily mixed with Manju words and other languages.
Ask any Hmong parents and elders and they will tell you that, our culture did not come from the Chinese.

Notice Chinese Hanfu. We don't wear Hanfu, but our dead are dress in Hanfu-like clothing. lolol

Chiyou is thought to be the inventor of our religion (Yeej and Yaj). Huangdi is thought to be the inventor of Ying and Yang.
It's opposite.

Hmong are branch out from the Miao from China thats all I know.

Wow, I've got a lot of new knowledge about China from you guys... I thought that people of ancient China are only Han people because it seems like that even in written materials...

BTW, the word Nang sounds like Fujianese word for "Human" or "People." They also say "Nang" or "Lang." I'm not really good in other dialects except Mandarin n Cantonese because I only deal with those speakers in my neighborhood and work-place. How about Lao and Dai of Yunnan? I thought that they are all the same?

I had seen Fujianese funeral and they have something like a Tao priest, thrusting swords everywhere... Is it has something to do with Hmong people customs? If they are practicing Hmong customs, why is that nobody recognize it as Hmong heritage but known as Han heritage? I can't consider those people as Buddhists because I don understand their rituals... I thought that Taoist religion is Han religion...

Sorry for VD quality... But I had seen funerals like this in my neighborhood, and the priest wear black robe with sword in his hand in front of "Long" or the "coffin." They also burn things like car made of paper and houses, maids, money and etc.

Ox is Niu.... Fujianese is Gnu... Cantonese is Ngaau... ... I think the word Miao in the character also means Sprout and it also seems like a surname... I guess you're right, Mandarin might not be pure form of Chinese language... I'm still confuse how to acknowledge Chinese people in historical context, either with Han, Xia, or Hua Ren since Han is sinonymous with China today...

Lao and Dai people are related. Therefore, Lao are related to Zhuang people too. All Tai-Kadai speaking people.

In Hmong, cow or ox would be pronounced like this: NYU <--- English pronounciation here.

(Ny + ou) "ou" vowels as in the English "you". There is no English equivalent to the consonant "ny".

It's a Chinese religion. Not exclusive to only Han or whatever ethnicities out there.

I'm sure the Yang-Ying is part of Taoism.

Hmong have their own "yang-ying" also. Basically, Yang (ya) is the living world and Ying (yin) is the spirit world. Heavy emphasis on this in Hmong shamanism.
