idea.gif I have an idea.
I believe we could all work together and keep adding extra bits of history to this and make it an ever expanding post of the key events in Indonesia's history.
It would require a bit of cooperation, but I think we can do it.
However I think it would work better if we make the timeline in chronological order, rather than based on incidents and geography.
I reckon the "Timeline" post could head the topic, followed by members posts about things that should be added, revised, and general discussions about key events.
Certainly any person surfing the net and reading our timeline would get a quick and informative overview of Indonesian history, and that is something which would be valuable to our forum.

What does everybody think about this idea ?
elleX0
Ralf, I think it is a brilliant idea because time fades memories and causes confusion. But how can we do it? We need a dedicated historian to maintain it and we need a site for such additions. I will PM you on one site that could accommodate this.
Ralf
Glad you are enthusiastic about this idea...... because you are going to be working with everyone else to maintain it.
Naturally I will chip in and do my bit. With your permission I can add/edit bits every now and then.
But let's not burn ourselves out by trying to do too much all at once. I see this as a long-term project.
elleX0
It is going to be a tough job, but I am prepared to pitch in.
elleX0
The problem, as I see it now, is how can we have multiple editorship in a thread, and when there is a dispute, who gets the final say? A committee? Can you set up a section that can do this?
Ralf
Right here we have our committee.
We discuss it here and decide how we structure the timeline.
The timeline will remain as the first post, down here below the timeline we make comments about how we want to structure it and what to include.
elleX0
For example: (1) I would be interested to see a timeline of seismic disturbances that have made an impact on Indonesian life and efforts to combat this phenomenon. (2) Any significant changes in history that has had an impact on Indonesia's culture or political/ religious attitudes.

Thanks ElleXO,

I am not a real fan f Wikipedia as there is a lot of false information. I just like to read what Mas Maja wrote.I am into history and like books better. I have seen too much stories on internet that are not true and there is a lot of copying and pasting. Yes I admit in many things I am quite old fashioned. But my blog is booming as I had 6000 unique visitors last month, this months the 7000 level will be past. I often write about history.

Oom Lon..., maybe you can join and become wikipedian. icon_smile.gif We can use your fast knowledge and your POV on Indonesian and Netherlands colonial history. You also can join Netherlands language wikipedia. Click the top right "create an account"
Once you have create an account, you can edit, upload images, and even create new articles and entry in wikipedia.

Do some editing if there is some false or wrong information or even vandalism. However if you not provide information on sources, references or quotations, if there's some other wikipedian do not agree with you, your edits could be reverted or nullified. However some problems could be disscussed in talk page among wikipedians.

My reasons to have joined wikipedia is because it used to be a lot of false or uncomplete informations lurking on wikipedia entries and articles especially about Indonesia, and its tickle my urge to correct and make them right. For example in English Wikipedia articles that wrote for example about Batik, Wayang, Silat, and Satay, probably started by a Malaysian wikipedian, so he/she wrote "Satay in Malay this..." "Batik is Malay that..." etc... so I edit it and gave them my pov.

The challenge is (also opportunity) wikipedia is a free and open net encyclopedia, many people worldwide can edit it, some bad guys can even vandalize or create hoax in articles... icon_confused.gif But we can activate the "watch button" to inform if there's a changes (good or bad) on article we "care" about... Wikipedia also probably have the largest entry in all encyclopedia ever exist, so it covers wide and quite complete subjects. Neway there's consensus in my office NOT to quote wikipedia directly, because the risk is too high to extracting wrong informations or even hoaxes... We tends to use wikipedia as some kind of "portal" to direct us to its references.
Ralf
Wikipedia was certainly helpful in pointing me towards further references when I was preparing for my Japan trip in 2005.

I have put together a timeline on Indonesia in Google Knol. Would you think it would be acceptable on AF? I could copy and paste it here. Have a look:

Trim's Mas. Ayam sori Mas Maya, no time. I just want to know what you wrote as I know you have a very serious interest in Javanese history. I remember I learned a few things from you, people like that I respect. At the moment I am busy with a few projects. I am waiting for government money for the publication of a book about “Kuburan Belanda”, only the pics are from my hand. Further I hope to publish next year a full-colour catalogue on VOC money. In December and January I will be in West Seram to follow the path of Arnold van Outshoorn de Vlaming during his cengkeh-war there (1651 – 1656). I found in a Dutch Library an old book about that war, published in 1665, I wonder what is left of what is described. I also work together with a journalist on Ambon who is writing a book in Ambon language about the history of Serikambelo on Hoamoal. So no time for Wikipedia.

"Kuburan Belanda"? I bet you photographed beautiful Belanda angel tombstones in "Taman Prasasti" aka ex-Batavia cemetery near Museum Nasional.

Too bad today cemetery tombstones are not created as graceful as it used to be...
Fascinating job you got there..., researching in Netherlands library and get your hands on 17th century book and "napak tilas" historical events as far as Seram.
Good luck Oom. beerchug.gif

Hi Mas maja, of course I have been there but that’s a museum. I have been to other places, to see the decay and negligence. No one seems to be interested in these old cemeteries except for robbing. If you see these it is terrible. You know my cynical pictures of molested pieces of history. I am busy with that, Indonesia doesn’t take care of the history of their country.

I haven’t touched the book, I have only seen it on microfilm. To see a book like that one needs special permission with a good reason. The original manuscript of the book by Livinius Bor, a secretary of Ambon’s Governor Arnold de Vlaming van Outshoorn is kept in the National Library in Brussels, it has 24 beautiful drawings of war situations, with ships, benteng and troops. I am busy with that Hoamoal war because it is quite obscure. Everybody knows about the killings of Jpz Coen on Banda, Westerling in Sulawesi but this war to establish the monopoly on cengkeh is unknown. In Indonesia the history of Java is the most important, they tend to forget about the other parts. Actually the history of the Moluccas is very interesting.. Hoamoal was important, because people from Serikambelo smuggled cengkeh from Moti and planted these on Hoamoal, that was a great success, as cengkeh did very well there. Last January I have been to Serikambelo, I been past Tanjung Sial, very spectacular, I have also been to Manipa. This part of Indonesia is beautiful, but still very remote. One can’t even use his HP. bawling.gif I was the second bule that they saw for years in Serikambelo, there was someone from Sweden a couple of years ago to do survey on the language, but strange enough was not able to speak bahasa Indonesia.

Serikambelo

elleX0
londoh, tell me more about Serikambelo. Where exactly is it? How do the people make a living there? Why do they live right on the shore when only a few yards back they could avoid a tsunami?
