Taiwan carries out largest ever missile test: reports

http://www.etaiwannews.com/etn/news_conten...Politics_TAIWAN

Taiwan has carried out its largest-ever missile exercise, less than a fortnight after China showed off advanced ballistic weaponry in a massive National Day parade, local media said yesterday.

The missiles were launched on Tuesday from the secretive and tightly guarded Chiupeng base in southern Taiwan and could strike major Chinese cities, the United Daily News reported.

President Ma Ying-jeou, who has been criticized for being too friendly with China, was among the observers of the exercise, the paper said, citing a "reliable military source."

The test came after China, which has vowed to take back Taiwan, celebrated 60 years of communist rule on Oct. 1 by parading high-tech weapons including intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Taiwan's defense ministry declined to comment on the report, which was also carried by the Liberty Times.

The missiles tested included the Hsiungfeng 2E, which has a range of around 600km and has not yet entered the military's inventory, according to the Liberty Times.

The missile is intended for launch from both land and sea, and would be capable of striking airports and missile bases in southeast China, as well as cities such as Shanghai and Hong Kong, military experts say.

China, which still regards Taiwan as part of its territory awaiting reunification, has refused to renounce the use of force in dealing with Taiwan.

In his annual National Day address last week, Ma said Taiwan would "never ignore the other side's military threat despite significant improvements in cross-Strait ties."

China has targeted the country with more than 1,000 ballistic missiles, Taiwan's defense ministry says.

Dream on.

China has no plans to launch any large-scale missile attacks against Taiwan's largest cities, and any Taiwanese attack targetting civilians in large cities on the mainland will result in a complete and swift counter-value bombardment campaign.

Common sense.
Chinese fighting against Chinese should be minimized. Chinese Versus non-Chinese.....well you get the meaning. DPP is no chinese. They have different blood.

Just like in US, it's not uncommon thata white Anglo Amercian feel closer than to an Anglo from UK than someone like you , even thought you are also an amercian, Asian American that is. bloodline counts.

So, let's not kid ourselves.

Interesting - I never knew that China dismantled its stockpile of 1,000 SRBMs.

Interesting, I thought for sure they were aimed at military targets and bases. I never knew they were for bombarding civilian cities. icon_wink.gif

If you grew a brain you would know where those missiles intend to hit.

LOL! Taiwan serious about aiming missiles at HK?

Look at these figure.... it would be pretty bad for both sides if HK was hit with 2 SRBM (which would obliterate the city)

If the city of Hong Kong was hit with 2 missiles, China would have lost a trading partner equal to Japan and South Korea combined.

Taiwan would have similarly lost a trading partner as important as the United States.... or Japan and Singapore combined for that matter.

HK is the world's 7th largest trading entity and China's international financial centre. Just shot one missile at it... then both China and Taiwan will get hurt.
