No, the majority of Karens are still Buddhist. Christian Karens tend to get alot of attention in the international media because they are ones who mostly face persecution in Burma, and hence make up the bulk of the Karen refugees residing in the West. Therefore it seems as though the majority of Karens are Christian but in reality they're just a minority but nonetheless still make up around 20-30% of the total Karen population. The rest are either Theravada Buddhists like the Bamar and Mon or practicse traditional animistic beliefs.
Have you guys heard of the NE Indian tribes of India.I think Manipuris and nagas are similar to the Burmese . An insurgencys has been going on for many many years in those states with Indian soldiers commiting rapes on their women.Due to the SPECIAL ARMES FORCES SPECIAL POWERS ACT passed in 1958 to fight scesionest and terrorists, the army is given the power to shoot on sight and arrest anybody without a warrant ,these powers have been blamed for many atrocities commited by indian soldiers on the people of the 7 ne indian states in India (called the seven sisters) who look east asian . Google ARMED FORCES SPECIAL POWERS ACT INDIA and Read up on the situation of the people there ,also read up on how Sikkim became part of India.Read up on how the NE indian states became part of India because of the british, the situation there is not unlike what is happening in tibet, we dont know anything about what goes on there is because the westerners are intimidated by Indians and wont go there to report on what is happening , and also special permits are require to visit this part of the country.
