okay, i vietnam and there is this one vietnam nail salon i often pass by to get to another store. As i glance and look through window, i sometime see non-asian female customer sit high in chair while the vietnam lady(sometime man) wash the feet and get pedicure.

when i look at them lady faces(customer) i notice something, like they are try hard not to laugh so sometime they bite lower lip....i sure everyone has done this before when you bite lower lip to keep yourself from laughing. so why reason they have smirk on face for? could it be they try not to laugh because the vietnam lady who usually work at these place are usually around 35-50 year old and very unnattractive? the ladies(workers) are usually very pale looking,flat face, and their hair is usually part down the middle or in pony tail.

so to non-asian female customer, they thinking to themselve,"look at this unnattractive vietnam lady clean my feet and do pedicure....."she ugly but i no try to laugh because it rude." and maybe they listen to the vietnam lady worker talk in vietnam and maybe our language is funny to them.

and the owner is usually some funny look guy with the tight shirt but have no muscle with some kind of gay necklace around neck....he alway making phone call to somebody and almost sound like woman

Sir, have you ever had a pedicure? It's very ticklish, and if you did have one, then you'd know that many women and men are sensitive in their feet and that when their feet are being scrubed, you'll have a tendency to move and laugh, not because of the person's appearence who is doing their feet. I can't guarantee the person whose feet are being done are exactly "attractive" either.

Back to the subject of this thread, Vietnamese nail salons in the USA. A business prof. once marvelled to me how the Viets has found a niche and cornered this market for themselves within 30 years or so. Before such time, she explained, only the ladies-who-lunch type could afford to have their nails done, or such services were reserved for very special occasions. Nowadays, with the abundance of nail salons in America, the price had dropped and everyone can afford to have their manicure and pedicure, including the white-trash type.

Finally, there is no shame in making an honest living to feed oneself and one's family in America. (How many college students currently work as busboys, janitors, dish washers, cooks, busdriver, .......to support themselves through colleges? I knew a former Dean of Engineering school at a top university in CA who was once a grave-digger in his youth.) It's also against the American Constitution for the State to license only young and attractive girls to do nails. The "plain-looking" female workers in the nail salon usually have children who scored at the top their classes, and/or going to some top notch universities. Their experiences at someone's feet today usually result in their children's success in main stream America tomorrow. Such are the stories of the immigrants (of any race and ethnicity) who arrived at the USA with little or no money at all.

i dont know if people know this, but many of the nail salon owners are millionaires. many of the nail salon workers are able to put their kids through college and buy houses within 6 years.
