Are Japanese doing enough to promote a positive image of Asians. I think that the Japanese have the most potential to portray Asians in a positive light, given the amount of business connections it has. Sony is connected to the film business, but Japan also makes a lot of Anime, and video games, and this could have a potential impact on how people portray Asians. One way the Japanese can change things is by putting in more Asian characters in the games. What got me thinking was when I was looking at some Sony commercials and couldn't help but notice that all the people in them were white. I am also thinking that with the power that Sony has, it could actually throw some Asians in their commercials just to show the world that Asians at least exist. You might say that since this was a western commercial, then they would use white people, but then I went on google and looked for Chinese Sony commercials and discovered half the people in them were white. Are the Japanese making full use of their power? Or do Asians just not have enough pride? Why do we constantly put white people ahead of ourselves?

i used to write, not anymore though. asia for asians was messed up, but im talking about what they could be doing in the western world with their influence. if you look at some black owned businesses, they usually hire some black people to help themselves out. if they did a commercial, they would usually try to include a black person at least, and feel they have a responsibility to their own people. i think we can learn a lot from the blacks. and i dont think i even need to speak about white businesses because they always put whites in their commercials, and media. there is a lot that honda, nintendo, sony, toyota, yamaha, etc can be doing out there for the asian image.

You have to remember the biggest targeted audience of products by Sony and Nintendo and such are those whom they export to; primarily the USA and Europe. Therefore, it only makes good marketing sense to market to your primary consumers. Local Nationals in Japan, though there are millions, are nothing compared to the export numbers, and therefore the advertising goes towards those that bring in the biggest numbers.
Furthermore, it would create a possible negative image if something like a video game for example was marketed worldwide by the use of Asian, in this case Japanese, actors, since it might instill an incorrect assumption that the product in question primarily cultural inside the Asian community. You'd have people looking at the commercials and dismissing it thinking and/or saying to themselves "oh, that's a Japanese thing", whereas if you show "white people" using it then it demonstrates how acceptable it is to all, even though everyone is clearly aware it's a Japanese made product.
It's all about the numbers, as these companies are in the business to make money, not to steer the world towards a more sensitive and culturally diverse society. Truth be told, that's the last thing on their mind in fact. Numbers and money; the two are interchangeable.
If anyone should be trying to do more for the betterment of worldwide awareness and diversity, like trying to improve the image or expose the world to "a good Asian image", it should be the common folk like those who post on boards such as this. Of all the forums I've been on (and there are quite a few), this one actually really surprised me of how abusive folks are towards one another (primarily because of race), and how tolerated the bigotry, prejudice and bias is here. People right here and now can make a difference by educating others, as well as learning to adapt to a multi-cultural community here, rather than bash the Chinese against the Koreans verses the Japanese and so on. Members of the community here are the ones who need to "do more", rather than big companies. It doesn't take millions of dollars in advertising or exposure, but rather compassion, understanding, tolerance and empathy.

When the rest of the world thinks of a developed, friendly, and advanced Asian country, Japan is definitely at the top of the list.
Japan, having some of the highest life expectancies on the planet, with some of the highest GDP/Capita rates of Asian countries, whose products are known world wide for their price, and reliability, could easily be a positive influence on the world's opinion of Asian countries.

Sony is a private company. Its only interest is to make money. This is true of all companies world round. Why are you placing the fault on the Japanese Nation for what Sony Motion Pictures does?
