Full Version: Do Asians tend to vote Republican or Democrat?

I was watching election coverage last night and noticed a lot of asians in the BUSH-CHENEY camp.

I know that many Viets and some Koreans vote Republican. But most Asians live in Blue states excepting the large Asian communities in Texas and Atlanta.
Many Asians are socially and fiscally conservative and seem to vote Republican, but you would think that any minorities would vote Democrat.

So do most Asians vote Republican or Democrat?
JustINtroverted
you already answered your question..

"Many Asians are socially and fiscally conservative and seem to vote Republican" exactly... i don't understand why the hispanics vote republican though.. tis wierd. Blacks definately vote Democrat.

Depends on your views... I would say I'm more Republican than anything. Though I don't like Bush... I dunno.. I could go into an explanation but i choose not to.. so i'll just shut up now.

Yeah you just pretty much answered your own curiousity.

aparently, many vietnamese in CA back bush:

California Vietnamese Celebrate Bush Re-Election, Victories in Local Offices

Vietnamese in San Jose and throughout California celebrated the re-election of George W. Bush as well as victories of Vietnamese Americans in local offices nationwide, according to Nam Nguyen, editor of the Vietnamese-language Cali Today.

California is home to the largest overseas population of Vietnamese, approximately 600,000, and the population is predominantly Republican.

"Many of our readers called in on election night and said how pleased they were about the turnout for Bush," said Nguyen. "They heavily favor Bush and feel contented that he won. One reader called us near midnight to tell us he spent hours waiting to vote and that he felt it was worth the wait."

Nguyen also said that Vietnamese are willing to overlook the sluggish economy during Bush's term and they feel it has been improving. In terms of the war in Iraq, he said many feel it is wrong to switch leaders in the midst of a conflict.

Vietnamese also rejoiced in victories of Vietnamese Americans in local races. In California, Republican Councilman of the city of Garden Grove, Tran Thai Van, won a seat on the state assembly. Other Vietnamese Americans won school board seats across the state. In Texas, Huy Vo, also won a seat on the state assembly.

"There’s much excitement in Vietnamese American communities in the United States. Vietnamese have done well in local politics and we got Bush in the White House. This is a season for Vietnamese to celebrate," said Nguyen.

Tis a season to whoop some republican @$$ haha embarassedlaugh.gif2 embarassedlaugh.gif2

I think most vietnamese just go with the crowd and don't actually decide for themselves who is the better candidate.

cali - well did you vote??

asians who are business owners etc tend to vote for republican according to my knowledge
GenerAZiaN
well, the republican's vote in California doesn't really matter in a highly democrat state. There's almost no way Republican can win California's electoral votes

Here's the answer:

Kerry was most favored over Bush by Hmong respondents (65-15%), followed by Chinese-Americans (58-23%), Indian-Americans (53-14%) and Japanese-Americans (42-38%). Bush, on the other hand, was most favored over Kerry by Vietnamese (71-11%), Filipinos (56-30%), Koreans (41-38%) and Pacific Islanders (40-37%).

Interesting how Viets, Filipinos and Koreans vote for Bush.

Perhaps Viets & Koreans are similar to Cuban Americans and want Kim Jong Il out of power?

Filipinos have a large U.S. military presence and benefit from the U.S. military?

nice link. thanks!

Perhaps religion provides some of the answer as to why Filipinos and Koreans favor Bush? (sorry, I don't know about the Vietnamese) Catholicism seems to be quite prevalent among Filipinos and Christianity is the dominant religion among Koreans today it seems.

I don't have time to confirm these at the moment because I'm at school taking a break but maybe I'll do a little research confirming or disconfirming these later.

the democrats are the party for blacks and gays! I think the democrats learned a very harsh lesson. Nobody likes blacks, gays, wussies, or aethiests.

I think asians just conform to the white norm, which is conservative. If this was europe, they'd probably be mroe liberal ( the norm in europre)

i have a hard time understanding why anyone would vote for bush, especially an asian!
AgentBach
Most Asians would probably vote Rep. because Asians have the most income in the U.S. and therefore are upper middle class or upper class. Unfortunatly, I am not.

Man. Some of you need to understand that being a conservative has nothing to do with being White, nor do Democrats have anything to do with being a minority. I'm just gonna ssume people voted for Bush so he can clean up the mess he got us in.
