I like Hanoi's French look . It's attractive and romantic !
Son
Hanoi is an Asian city. Why strive to look like French. Iīd rather go to France if I wanted to see real French architecture. Anything else is just cheap imitation. I just hope only a small part of Hanoi looks like that otherwise Iīd be very disappointed.

Btw, phnom Penh looks great.

What do u expect from Hanoi ? She was a French colony city ! And not many places in Asia has French look like that.

Hanoi skyline look pretty decent but they need more skyscrapers in the middle then it'll be perfect

So what? Shes still Vietnamese. All of the "French" buildings you posted are new. They have no historic value.

LOL man ! Don't u know that French architecture can't not be copy (they have some secret in building that no one from other countries can copy )! All of French buildings in Hanoi were built by Frenchs . You see them new because people have re-painted it recently. Even the railways u see in the picture was designed by Eiffel ( the one who built Eiffel Tower ) . And that bridge is about 100years old .

Donīt tell me lies. Except for the bridge (which is not a building!!!) all/allmost all the other French looking buildings you or Rexchat posted are new. Of course there are a number of French colonial buildings in Hanoi and I donīt mind them because they are part of our history but the new ones you or Rexchat posted donīt have any historic values. Why would a foreign person go to VN to see some cheap copies of the French architecture?

I think the Hanoian want to add a lil bit of frech flavor to their city nothing to be argue about

Which of those photos show you a copy building ? Which one ? How do u know ?
You are not even a Vietnamese or a French . You know nothing about French architecture . You're just a Cambodian , standing there and say something funny with no proofs !

Have you visited Hanoi ? If u had visited Hanoi , u would have known that Hanoi has a French town which is call "The French Quarter" . All of the building in The French Quarter were built by the Frenchs 60 years ago . Accept The French Quarter , no other places in Hanoi has French buildings.

You believe all those buildings above were built by Vietnamese ? Such a silly and funny thought . I bet people will laugh at ur face if u tell them that French buildings were built by Vietnamese . Asian people can't build that kind of architecture even if they want to ! The only thing Hanoi's government do is maintain it and of course , Paris has sent a lot donation to maintain those French building too !

This is The French Quarter in Hoan Kiem District Hanoi

I think you should visit Hanoi before saying something funny like that again !

I agree with Mr Son a little bit because I have been to the new urban area called Trung Hoa - Nhan Chinh and I saw many cheap-plastic-looking European imitations. If you look at the quality of craftsmanship close up, you'd think it was built by a child.

Trung Hoa Nhan Chinh is a new urban area man ! And those skyscrapers in Trung Hoa Nhan Chinh are not French architecture ! And furthermore , Asian's building industry is more develope than European . Trung Hoa Nhan Chinh was built by Korean and Vietnamese , Korean is one of the biggest skyscraper builders in the world , they don't need to imitate any countries !

Donīt make me laugh. Just because Europe doesnīt have as many skyscrapers as some Asian or American cities doesnt mean their building industry is less developed. As opposed to Vietnamese, Europeans do have the money and the knowhow to build any skyscraper that VN/Asia will ever have. French people e.g. rather prefer a venerable French country chateau over some modern but soulless skyscraper which you can see everywhere in Asia. They spend every year hundreds of millions on the restoration of old historic buildings rather than investing in some skyscrapers. Itīs about culture, my friend, and having class which you donīt seem to know much about. Im a Vietnamese living in Europe. So donīt fool me by making such an outrageous claim. You sound like an idiot.

LOL. Dont worry, Rexchat, my little friend. I know enough about Hanoi to not to be fooled by a notorious liar like you. At least I know enough to recognise the Manor 1+2 in your pics which is a recently built residential complex in Hanoi. It was designed as French architecture and obviously not all Hanoians are fond of it. Read this:

QUOTE
... On the other hand, it is breaking Hanoi culture, customs and values. Built in the centre of Hanoi, The Manor was designed as French architecture. The Manor lacks Hanoi special traits....

QUOTE
...The Manor was one of the first luxurious residential complexes that have been built in Hanoi. That has set a new living standard for the upper class in the capital of Vietnam as a result of urban development. However, living in one of those complexes such as The Manor is not all good. Many traditional values retained in hundreds of years by Vietnamese people have been disappeared in that small community....

At least you have some class to admit that you were wrong. Whatever, the Manor is not just a shopping mall. Itīs a luxurious residential complex for rich people living in Hanoi, but most of them are foreign people like Japanese and Korean which is a shame since it makes Vietnamese look like second class people in their own country.

At the matter of fact , Koreans and Japaneses who live in the Manor just rent it for their part time living . Hanoi's rich people prefer to have villas . Hanoi's upper class people own 80% luxury villas in Danang , some villas cost more than 10 millions dollars. ( while a condom like The Manor has maximum price : 200 000 USD)

http://www.vnhouseservice.com/index.php?f=...tail&id=144

Hanoians rich people are different from Korean and Japanese and even Saigonese , they don't want to live in such a condom (which is supposed to mean that u have to share a building with other people ). They want to have their own worlds , own buildings , own cars . You said that some Koreans and Japaneses make Hanoians look like second class people , that's the most stupid thing that I've ever heard because Hanoian first class people are willing to pay more than any Japaneses and Koreans do .

U'd better live in Hanoi for a while and learn more about Hanoians . Don't sit their and read LinhSit's blog !
PapaOi
It's a complete overkill for Son to say that. icon_wink.gif I have seen some rich people prefer to live in hundred year old ba gian house with modern furniture, which they bought from prestigious family such as from Trinh lord and have hundred year old nhā rường from Hue mandarin to have it as worshipping house. They often own another condo in inner city such as pacific palace not on the outskirt like the manor or ciputra which are for the nouveau riche.
I, like most of you here, never fully know much wealth they really have. Last week, another Vietnamese take over 70% shares of Hilton Opera House in Hanoi.

You live in Hanoi and yet you thought the Manor was just a shopping mall. What does that say about your knowledge of Hanoi? LOL.

Im talking about the average Hanoians, you idiot. Of course there are a few super rich Viets who have several villas all over the country (or even overseas) and several Swiss bank accounts with hundreds of millions of Dollars. Most of them are very likely to be some high ranking Party members or have some connection to the Party. Such people have godlike status in VN. Of course they are not second class people, not even first class people. Thatīs nothing new to me. I dont need to live in Hanoi to know that, my little friend. LOL.

In VN 99,9% of the rich people are nouveau riche. Why? Itīs a communist country. Until recently nobody is supposed to have private property, my friend. icon_wink.gif

Okay , thanks for having noticed my tiny mistake to say The Manor is just a shopping mall . But if you ask a random Hanoian what The Manor is , she will tell you that it is just a shopping mall ! Because very little Hanoians think of renting an apartment and living in The Manor .

You talk about Vietnamese just like some stupid foreigners usually talk about Vietnam , they often use these words : first class , second class , godlike ...What the hell are those words ? We don't separate Hanoians into groups by qualities of life !

hmm...I saw more Koreans living at Trung Hoa Nhan Chinh. They say Korean Town is right behind THNH because of many Korean restaurnts, shops and so.
Foreigners can only buy apartments in Vietnam recently, and that's only 12,000 people who are qualified to do so. So the real owner of those apartments are Vietnamese.

Yes, Hanoi has a beautiful French Quarter, and many beautiful villas in Ba Dinh District which were built by the French. However, there are still some new projects like The Manor coming up in new urban areas. Then again, most of them were also designed by the "French" . Archetype, Archipel, HTT...have all Vietnamese-French roots. The Manor was designed by Ho Thieu Tri (Vietnamese-French) and a Korean architect company. And to be honest, Korea and Japan are building also a lot of french-looking residential buildings. Anyone watched the Korean drama Goong? You can see the Korean royal family living in a western castle. lol
