viation authorities of Korea and Japan recently apprehended a Japanese national, who had allegedly threatened to blow up JAL flights.
According to Incheon Airport police Thursday, a 35-year-old Japanese man was in police custody in Japan, for threatening to explode JAL flights departing from Incheon and Gimhae international airports. He had called and sent e-mail to the Japanese flag carrier on 12 occasions for a month and a half starting Aug. 16.
The Japanese man was deported after sending a threatening email to the JAL office at Incheon airport in early July, when he was working as an agent for a firm that arranges for Koreans to study in Japan.
After the threat, the airport police searched Japan-bound flights for a supposed bomb, the police said, adding that it caused a delay in departures and inconvenience for passengers.
Korea’s National Police Agency sent a team of three investigators responding to the Japanese polices’ request for help in finding the suspect, the police said.
“We helped gain information about the suspect and helped the Japanese police track him through the Internet, playing a key role in apprehending him” a police officer said.
The official added the Japanese police gave the three Korean investigators a plaque of appreciation for their help.
