Cambodia's parliament has stripped opposition leader Sam Rainsy of his immunity from prosecution.

The move was prompted by his reported encouragement to villagers to uproot border markers on the frontier with Vietnam last month.

Mr Rainsy has claimed that Vietnam is encroaching on Cambodian territory.

Parliament is overwhelmingly dominated by the Cambodian People's Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen, who tolerates little dissent.

The vote marks the third time this year that parliament has removed the immunity of members from the biggest opposition party.

Stripping habit

Mr Rainsy was charged with misconduct when he encouraged villagers evicted from a border area to uproot wooden posts that had been placed along the newly agreed frontier with Vietnam.

"The National Assembly has lifted the immunity of Sam Rainsy, who committed an act of destruction... and convinced people to commit criminal acts," the house said in a statement.

Sam Rainsy is currently thought to be in France; the 25 lawmakers from his party boycotted the vote.

Journalists were barred from attending the house session and police prevented the boycotting lawmakers from returning after the vote.

Rights groups and international donors have accused the government in recent months of using the courts to muzzle opponents and the media.

The Sam Rainsy Party spokesman Yim Sovann said the government was abusing its power and acting undemocratically.

"The government wants to silence the opposition when it is helping the people," he told reporters.

"These people are losing land day by day because of the border demarcation. This is an injustice and a big step backwards for democracy in Cambodia."

Last month Cambodia's parliament passed laws limiting protests to fewer than 200 people and tightened defamation laws.

In June, the National Assembly voted to strip parliamentary immunity from two opposition members, Mu Sochua and Ho Vann, so that they can be prosecuted on defamation charges.

The government has defended its use of the courts, saying in one case a critic had attempted to cause "chaos and confusion" with inaccurate remarks.

The story is simple,

After Thugsin 3 days visit, these stupid khmers started to think that Sam Rainsy is a yellow-shirt supporter... hahaha...

The next story is:
they will put Sam Rainsy in jail, accusing him of spying on the next flight plan from Dubai to Phnom Penh. icon_smile.gif

The issue is related to the Vietnamese border, I think Mr. SRS was overreacting and all most people said "try to find the spot-light."

You see, most of the newspapers articles nowaday covers much of the PM, Thaksin and Abhi$hit news, and not much was mentioned about him. I could feel he is left out at this moment.

Right now, no further decision is made over his future, but I could tell after a few negotiations, he would be back to normal.

At any rates, Mr. SRS was completely wrong in this issue, but the government won't banish him from the country. icon_wink.gif

The Viets were the first to uproot the border marker deeper into Cambodian territory, so I see no reason why Sam Rainsy should be stripped from his immunity of prosecution. He did the right thing by keeping those Viets in check and I applaud him for it. However, I'm not worried about him loosing immunity because that is just formal. In the end, like always, Hun Sen will just slap him on the wrist and Sam Rainsy will just continue on were he left off again, buying Hun Sen time to put Thaksin back in power and forming a coalition to encounter those encroaching Viets.

haha. now I know why you khmers tried very hard to install Thugsin back.

It was the photo of Cambodia's alumenium tanks and paper planes Aeroforce1 posted that put all the jigsaws together.

The Viets scrared your people so much that you want to borrow Thailand's tanks and jets to fight with the Viets?

You H.M Woon Sen knew that Abhisit govt will not lend him the tanks and jets, but Thugsin will.

What a smart plan! hahahaha icon_smile.gif
Kdaw_Tmaw
Borrow? More like take over you dumbass, that is if we don't destroy your junta first. hahaha.

Okay, I'm gonna ignore the fact you call me a Youn because I don't believe in unnecessary conflict.

If Mr. SRS really thinks about Cambodian people, he should have gone over the legal process to protest against this. And what he has taken as the basic of his action is the words from the villagers. Are you sure those villagers know where exactly is the border? The bordering process is underway and for someone like Mr SRS to hinder it is no real surprise to the government. He has been claiming alot of errors of the process, but where are the prove? And what about the consequences he has brought onto his own people. We are now dealing with Thailand in an international level, and Mr SRS is so heroic to do a kid show? What is the sense of it? And the post was there long time ago, why did he just recently remove it? Is there any kinds of conspiracy?

I know when talking about border and land, Khmer people are so caring about this. And if there is an error, please go through legal system. Don't we have enough of nonsense from the corrupted who doesn't follow law? And what happened to Mr SRS?

I don't know about Khmer internal politic but it's easy for me to tell who is a real pratriot.

While Hun Sen gave away Khmer land to Viets for free, Sam Rainsy is trying to get it back.

It's the same in Thailand.
While Thug Sin gave Thai's land to Khmer in exchange of his own business, Abhisit is trying to get it back..

It's easy for everyone to see who is who, don't you think?icon_smile.gif

On 19th of November, Mr. Rainsy had released a statement accusing the Cambodian government of failing to protect Khmer territories.

"Vietnam has been, over the last 30 years, grabbing thousands of square kilometres of Khmer territories in Kep, Kampot, Takeo, Kandal, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Kampong Cham, Kratie, Mondolkiri and Ratanakiri provinces. This is an ongoing painful process that Mr. Hun Sen does not want us to look at. But we can’t help seeing the tears and hearing the cries of countless Khmer farmers who are losing their rice fields and other farmland to Vietnam as I have recently witnessed in Svay Rieng province", the statement said.
========

The above statement is a statement I ecpected to hear from a real pratriot.

But for this statement

"Up to now, not a single Cambodian farmer had lost their rice field yet".

For me, this statement seems to come from a traitor.

I just need to step to keep you in check Nikkie. You are quite revealing about who you really are. That is you are traitor to the Khmer territorial integrity. The whole world stands and watch the behavior of Hun Sen when dealing with Ah YOUNs regarding the Cambodian border demarcation issues on the east and the Hun Sen's behavior toward Thailand about Cambodian border issues on the west. On the West, Hun Sen claims that whatever part of Cambodia belonged to the French IndoChina is now belonging to the modern Cambodia. Likewise, the French also demarcated what belonged to Cambodia and what belonged to Vietnam. So how come, the Vietnamese border markers are being planted deep inside Cambodia way past what the French demarcated? In fact, Hun Sen himself said that the ground reality is different from the 1965 map because through technicality, Hun Sen shows that the Vietnamese territory extends into current Cambodian territory. This is wrong. How come the entire Khmer nation knows about the border issues with Thailand, but the entire nation is being kept blind when it comes to knowing the details of the border issues with Vietnam? Why are there double standards? Vietnamese illegal encroachment into Cambodia is not a new phenomenon, OK. So get your fact straight!!!!! Even Heng Samrin claimed that the Vietnamese encroached into the land near his house. Even Kae Kim Yarn claimed that the Vietnamese pushed their border line deep into Cambodia up to 1,400 meters far. So what do you say to that? In addition, let me repeat myself once more that this is not a new phenomenon. The farmers who used to farm on their rice fields were one day told not to go past the new border posts, so this is something wrong already. The farmers did repeatedly went to the use the Cambodian legal process, but nothing is being done to help them. So that is why they went to Sam Rainsy. Sam Rainsy did what he needed to do and that is to protect the people and the territorial integrity of Cambodia. So who are you defending now? Hun Sen or the ordinary Khmer folks. How much more land we need to lose before you are convinced that the Viets are encroaching over Cambodia's territory? Let me review the facts for you: Hun Sen admitted it; Hor Namhong admitted it; Kae Kim Yarn witnessed it, Heng Samrin witnessed it, and the Khmer Farmers suffer it. How much more proof do you want? Don't talk to me about the Cambodian legal process. It stinks and it only serves the Vietnamese. Remember the case of Tim Sakhorn???? Who would deported a Khmer national to Vietnam from Cambodia to be prosecuted in Vietnam???? Unbelievable. That is the Cambodian legal process. In fact, the Cambodian legal process even protect Thaksin Shinawatra the fugitive from Thailand. So face the truth, or you will be labelled a traitor to the Khmer nation.
