are the odd ones out, in that they are probably the only Asian culture in all of the continent that eats or dine on tables and chairs?

Every other Asian culture virtually sits on the floor (whether in some kind of matted or floor padding or carpeted area etc) when they are eating or feasting their goodie cuisines.

Take your pic: Japanese, Koreans, Okinawans, Mongolians, Dong, Yi, Bai, Bani, Yao, Li, Buyei, Miao, Atayal, Ainu, Tuvans, Chuckchi, Buryat, Yakut, Evenki, Nivkhs, Bashkirs, Oirats, Koryaks, Nenets, Khanty, Uighurs, Tibetans, Vietnamese, Chơ Ro, Kinh, Cơ Tu, Giáy, Xinh Mun, Jarai, Gie Trieng, Hrê, Kháng, Mường, San Chay, Ta Oi, Tày, Thai, Lisu, Khmu, Khmer, Khmer Loeu, Mon, Phu Thai, Phuan, Burmese, Lao, Hmong, Shan, Karen, Padaung, Cham, Malays, Dayaks, Bidayuh, Kedayan, Kayan, Murut, Bajau, Tambanuo, Kadazans, Penan, Kelabit, Lun Bawang, Bugi, Minangkabaus, Illanun, Kubu, Orang Lauts, Bhutanese, Sikkimese, Nepalis, Hindis, Punjabis, Marathi, Telugus, Malayalams, Sinhalese, Tamils, Konkanis, Gujaratis, Keralese, Orissans, Biharis, Sundas, Nagas, Mizos, Assamese, Sherpas, Meghalayas, Chakmas, Filipinos (pre-Spanish) along with Ibanag Ilocano Pangasinense Moro Visayan, Palawans, Chamorros, Papuans, Polynesians etc....*holds breath*.... Afghan Pashtuns, Hazaras, Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Turkmens, Kyrgyz, Sindhis, Baluchis, Farsis, Kurds, Azeris, Lebanese, Syrians, Iraqi Marsh Arabs, Gulf Arabs, Arabs, Jews, Druze, Turks, Mazandaranis, Assyrians, Qashqais, Armenians, Georgians, Copts etc.

You would think that with the whole continent of cultures leaning towards the common etiquette of sitting the floor, you would think that Han Chinese culture would have just gone with the flow and not developed an aesthetic towards making dining furniture. icon_wink.gif

Nothing serious here. Just a light observation. icon_wink.gif

True, the words for chair and table in Khmer has chinese origins.

I've seen some Ming coffee tables that were real low, so the custom of eating on floors probably disappeared from China not too long ago. I heard that Chinese used to bow to each other (just like Japanese and Koreans still do), but it too was banned during hte Ming Dynasty.
