Recently with all the hype and excitement of incoming World Cup 2010 next year in South Africa, there's interesting and exciting proposal made by Indonesia to host World Cup 2022.
Yeah.., our country want to host World Cup in 2022. biggthumpup.gif

INDONESIA GREEN WORLD CUP 2022

I know our national team not doing pretty well in these days, our sports and transportation facility not a world class quality.
But hey... let's dare to dream for Indonesian Football and fight and strive to achieve it.
13 years is a long time, alot can be done.
I have a dream that Indonesia will become the host of either World Cup or Olympic Games in my lifetime.... neartears.gif

Indonesia: We Have Strongest Asian Bid For 2022

A Goal.com Exclusive in Indonesia.
Oct 24, 2009 11:38:38 PM

Indonesia believe that they will have Asia’s strongest bid for the 2022 World Cup as South Korea and Japan won't be awarded the tournament.

The South-East Asian nation has thrown its hat in the ring for 2022 and believes that the passion and spirit of the country will give it an advantage when FIFA makes the big decision in December 2010.
Recently, Goal.com met Nugraha Besoes, the General Secretary of the Indonesian Football Association and asked him about his country's plans for the World Cup.

Why did you decide to bid just for 2022 and not 2018?
We chose 2022 because there is still a lot of time for us compared to 2018. It is 13 years away and better for us to make preparations.
It is not only about infrastructure but we also have to prepare our national team. We want to enter the World Cup with a good national team compared to others.

Is there a chance that the 2022 World Cup will come here?
We have to do our best and prepare as well as we can. We have to know how far how we can do compared to others which have developed more than us.
If it happens, it will be the first South-East Asia to host the World Cup. We are a huge country with a big population and so many possibilities.
The atmosphere of football in Indonesia is great. Sepp Blatter gave a speech praising Indonesia’s spirit to fight for 2022.

So your theme is passion?
Yes, we have the passion. Our league attendances are the second highest in Asia behind Japan and we have the second highest amount of sponsorship.

Is Indonesia the best Asian candidate for 2022?
If Japan and South Korea, drop out then yes. Japan and Korea already had their chance. I don’t think FIFA will give it to them Then there is only Qatar. I don’t think they will make it. So we are very strong in Asia.

How about Australia?
Australia has so many international events – with women and youth. We don’t have that in Indonesia.

Who will win 2018?
I hope Europe wins 2018, maybe England. Most probably England. Then Asia’s turn can come next.
There have been a number of earthquakes recently and there were also the Jakarta bombings in July. Will these damage the bid?

These things could happen anywhere. I was in Mexico at the 1986 World Cup not long after they had suffered a big earthquake. Even terrorism is not happening just in Indonesia but security is the number one priority for us.

Actually Ralf..., Australia is our toughest rival for Asia region to host World Cup... embarassedlaugh.gif
And they send Nicole Kidman to South Africa to promote Australian bid for World Cup...

Aussies are protesting against the use of their hallowed "footy" stadium to hold the World Cup.
They are scared to lose a season of Aussie Rules Football, if the World Cup comes DownUnder.

I didn't know that Australia have their own Football, is it similar to American Football..?

2010 South Africa, Africa region become host
2014 Brazil, Latin America
2018 strongly suggested it's Europe's turn contested by: England, Russia, Portugal-Spain, Belgium-Netherlands, and maybe USA
2022 could be Asian region's turn with Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Qatar, and Australia contested as the host.

Korea and Japan unlikely to host World Cup 2022, because they already have their shots in 2002.
Qatar have unlively local league compared to Indonesia. With small population and small country, its such a waste to build several huge capacity stadiums just to stage World Cup and then get it wasted.
Australia have good national team and world class facilities. Australia too have succeed on staging Olympic 2000.
Anyway Indonesia consider Australia as toughest rival to host 2022 World Cup.

If South Africa can host it, Indonesia can host it. I'm not sure if Indonesians are ready for the massive influx of beer drinking bule's though. Having Blok M is hard enough!

But Indonesia has to seriously fix its infrastructure though. I hope the Jkt skytrain will be finished by then...

Skytrain is in Bangkok...
Jakarta Monorail is Mangkrak (Javanese: idle or posponed) icon_sad.gif

The only likely positive sign of public transportation projects is Jakarta MRT, funded by JICA, Japan Aid.

Government Won’t Support Indonesia's Bid to Host 2022 World Cup

After almost two months of deliberating, the Indonesian government handed down a “no” verdict on a possible 2022 FIFA World Cup bid for Indonesia.

Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Agung Laksono said on Thursday that the government would not back the bid or issue an official letter of guarantee to FIFA. Football’s world governing body required prospective World Cup hosts to provide such letters by midnight on Tuesday in order to remain in the running.

“To host such a big event, we need to do thorough preparation. It’s not something that is easy to do,” Agung said.

“We have sent a letter to [FIFA] saying that, for the time being, Indonesia’s top priority is to develop the game here for better achievement. We don’t want just to become an event organizer. We want to make our game better. Perhaps we’ll back up a bid in the future.”

Indonesia’s bid was accepted in March 2009, adding it to a list of 2018 and 2022 hopefuls that included Australia, England, Japan, Qatar, Russia, South Korea and the United States, plus joint bids from Spain-Portugal and Belgium-Netherlands.

Agung said his office would join forces with the State Ministry for Youth and Sports Affairs, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) and the National Sports Committee to hold a forum involving all football stakeholders in the country.

The forum, scheduled for March in Malang, East Java, was initiated after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono voiced concern last month about the nation’s dismal football achievements and asked clubs, fans and the media to discuss ways the nation can improve.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Andi Alifian Mallarangeng said that the forum would not be used as a vehicle to oust current PSSI officials from their positions.

“We’ll just try to find better ways to develop football here so we can be a force in the region once again,” Andi said. “This forum is not a government intervention into the PSSI.”

PSSI secretary general Nugraha Besoes declined to comment on the government’s decision.

“I have a sore throat. I can’t speak right now. Please ask the chairman,” Nugraha said at his office.

Repeated calls to PSSI chairman Nurdin Halid went unanswered on Thursday.

Benar juga ya... benahi dulu kebobrokan PSSI, reformasi kepengurusan PSSI, benahi dulu prestasi tim nasional Indonesia.
Barulah boleh bicara jadi tuan tumah Piala Dunia... icon_confused.gif

Rumors spread around mentioned that this is the govt way to slap and kick Nurdin Halid and his men out from PSSI...

O lol, those poles were meant for that. I thought it was some kind of modern Jakartanese art. :P Seems to be quite the trend, because i can see those almost everywhere. Everyday i see those at jalan kalimangan, functioning as a place to dry your clothes for nearby citizens.
No really, infrastructure in Indonesia is a sad combination. Jakarta making high buildings everywhere, but no infrastructure to back it up.

And the stadiums need to be seriously upgraded too, starting with high fences next to the field. Because those Indonesian supporters tend to join the fun on the field.
Talking about upgrading, Indonesian soccer skills......

^ that unfinished monorail ruins JKT skyline, it's pretty sad.

Bah, they should do something about PSSI first before bidding for the world cup host!

Benahi dulu PSSI
Lalu benahi pembinaan suporter
Benahi juga pembinaan dini para pemain
Tingkatkan skill dan prestasi
Baru calonkan diri jadi host World Cup

Sekarang saja PSSI bukannya tambah prestasi tapi malah makin bobrok plus marak tawuran suporter >.<

As much as I would LOVE to see a World Cup hosted in Indonesia (I live in the Philippines - just 4 hours flight from you guys), I think the biggest roadblock of all is the national team's quality of play (they have to at least be among the 10 strongest in Asia which sadly they aren't like the other SE Asian nations) and then the infrastructure...

But I hope to see you guys host it at least once in my lifetime (am 22 years old btw)....
