Has Japan ever made a movie about World War II?

What kind of movie, do you mean a historical documentary, or just a movie?

Tora Tora Tora was the first Pearl Harbor based American movie. Hollywood just used Japanese words as their movie title.

There's a Japanese movie coming out about a group of Zero pilots.

One of the best would have to be the documentary, "Riben Guizi". It features the confessions of 14 former Japanese soldiers who offer an account of the crimes they committed/witnessed during the Japan's invasion of China. It's over 3 hours long and it's very raw.

And the most surprising thing about the documentary is how consistent its information is with most Chinese and Western sources (e.g. it rightly acknowledges the damage incurred by the Chinese from atrocities such as the Unit 731 germ warfare and the infamous Rape of Nanjing).

Japanese have made movies that were set in that period, but they are mostly set in the home front and the war is not the main focus of it. They are more drama type.

I don't know about japan but in China they have like a drama series on Japan's invasion of China and they have some really old anti Japanese movies made in the mao era but my parents have them all.
