haha, yeah thats funny. I dunno which one i am, Im not the anime freak, but i do like that $hit. Im not really the know it all either, and im smarter than the deer in headlights........I guess im just cool.

Its not really that fuccing hard to learn, "she to school went apple bubblegum monkey carborator"........um..........yeah.

The kanji is easier to learn if u just learn what they mean. I know how to read a bunch of em, just dont know what the japanese words are.......(deer in headlights)

Actually i never took a japanese class, the bastards at the japanese culture assoc. wanted to charge 65 buccs a month..........thats the same as they charge for aikido, might as well just do that $hit....

actually it is

ichi / hitotsu
ni / futatsu
san / mittsu
shi / yo, yon, yottsu
go / itsutsu
roku / muttsu
shichi / nana, nanatsu
hachi / yattsu
kyuu, ku / kokonotsu
jyuu / tou

the second part of every number is used in combination with amount, the first in combination with counting, days, months and so on

for example: futatsunin = 2 people
yonen = 4 yen

and so on

Even more pickier than me. embarassedlaugh.gif I don't think he was looking for all the ways to count objects in Japanese. Just basic counting. I take it you're the "Know it All"? embarassedlaugh.gif

a more accurate transliteration is too to show that in this case the "o" () vowel is lengthened by adding another "o" () as opposed to an "u" (), i.e. = とお, not とう

really?
because I learned to write it as とう, not とお
for whatever reason, we were taught to use the う in hiragana, and the straight line in katakana, even though you usually write it as "u" in roomaji

(sorry, can't type kana, just copy/pasted your quote)

There are exceptions to pretty much all rules; this is one such case. In general, for an extended "o" sound, you will use -おう, but in the case of the Japanese number system's 10, you write とお. It's simply an exception, and you need to learn them as you go. This is why it's not good to learn Japanese using Romaji.

As for Katakana, though, you are correct in that you use the line: コーヒー (koohii or coffee).

I'm sending this to my Japanese teacher.

I don't learn through roomaji, that's just how I was taught
even though it's an "o" sound, always use the "u" character (in hiragana, for extended o-vowels)
thanks for the info! beerchug.gif

EDIT:
oh, and this part "even though you usually write it as "u" in roomaji"
should have said "even though you usually write it as "o" in roomaji"

Don't say always!! The point was that there are exceptions :P

大きい - おおきい - ookii, or big. Notice that we have another exception - おお. But yes, the general rule is -おう :P
