10 Nueva Ecija towns flooded
Ten towns in Nueva Ecija were reported to be under three feet of floodwaters Tuesday.
Among the towns hit by the flashfloods are Gapan, Laur, Penaranda, Palayan, Natividad, San Leonardo, San Isidro, General Tinio, Gabaldon, which is said to be the worst-hit, and Cabanatuan City.
More than a hundred passengers of three buses swept by the flashfloods have been rescued in Gapan town and were reported safe. A van overturned due to strong currents, but the passengers have been rescued.
Rescue efforts were launched in Gapan as houses were submerged in floodwaters. No storm-related deaths were reported so far, but Governor Tomas Joson said there were reports of some people missing.
Members of the Philippine National Police rescue team said they tried to airlift residents from the roof of their houses. But reports said the helicopters encountered problems because of strong winds and poor visibility.
