Death toll in Quezon province reaches 300
The death toll in Quezon province reached 300 on Tuesday evening, Social Welfare Secretary Corazon "Dinky" Soliman said.
Soliman said 114 of those who died came from the town of Real while 110 were from Infanta. The town of General Nakar counted 92 dead.
Soliman said the number of missing persons already reached 115.
She said flood victims have been taken to evacuation centers as rescue efforts are expected to continue through the night.
Earlier, rescue officials reported that more than 112 people were feared to have died due to flashfloods in Infanta, Quezon, alone.
The flooding was due to heavy rains brought by typhoon Winnie.
The Philippine Coast Guard reported that its helicopters are having difficulties mounting rescue operations because of strong wind and rain in the area. At least 14 survivors were brought to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila by the PCG.
