I dont know if im considered light skin or dark skin. I always think of myself as golden tan. Alot of ppl compliment on my complexion.hahah yea what is funny though is people think I look chinese. Im like i dont know i think im too tan to be chinese but they just say that haha. what i can tell you is my mom is a light skin lao lady. My dad is really light like his legs look like white ppls! yuck. My sister was pale up until she went to the military. Its me and my brother who is tan. Well my brother is pretty dark like khmer or phillipino.ahah! SO lao folks dont get offended just answer the question if you want.

Well sorry hate to tell you but there is alot of dark skin phillipinos. Most are dark skin. Well in Lao peoples eyes Phillipinos are dark skin. My friend's dad is really dark and he is illocano. Yes alot of them are tan and some are light skin but Khmers are like that too. I think the ratio of light skin and dark skin is the same with both phillipinos and khmers. I have seen some light skin khmers too. Yea alot of times you cant tell who is phillipino or who is khmer. Alot of them are really really hot. Nothing wrong with being dark anyways. Even some Lao people look like khmers or phillipinos but its because their family origin is from the deep south of laos and most inhabitants of southern laos has mon-khmer origin. And as for me I consider myself pretty tan but most khmers and phillipinos say im a light skin asian. Lao and viet ppl say im in the middle. Chinese say im dark ahahahaha
Another thing is that ive always thought that phillipinos, real malaysians, and indonesians overall were darker skin than mainland southeast east asians.
PervertBurger
I think dark color on Sao laos makes them look hotter but i don't discriminate icon_wink.gif

PLease ilocano is only an small part of filipinos and yes I admit most ilocano I know of are dark. But filipinos most filipinos aren't dark like khmers are. LOL you got your facts wrong if you think filipinos look like khmers or Laos. For your information filipino ancestors descended from the aboriginals of Taiwan. So we have nothing in common with Khmers and Laos genetically.LOL you thought wrong if you thought that filipinos were over-all darker skinned then mainland south east asians. sure.gif embarassedlaugh.gif In fact though its the other way around. embarassedlaugh.gif

BTW - Indos and Malays were said to have mixed with indian blood(So Malays and Indos may be darker complex due to that). So maybe they aren't as pure malay as filipinos. Well thats what the malays were saying in Malaysian chat.

And those are just one of the few tribes in the Philippines.

Uh don't Pacific Islanders wear hula skirts and leahs and all that stuff. LOL filipinos are mongoloid because our ancestors came from the aboriginals of Taiwan. While you khmers look like an mix between indian and negrito. embarassedlaugh.gif
ChuonCheat_Khmer
WOW..

Fil-Am:filipinos are tan skinned and they are mongoloids. khmers are dark and are negritos.

that feather hat they got on and their huge stature make them look like pacific islanders. so fil-am, can you tell me what do filipinos have in common with the rest of SEAsians?
Fil-Am
edit
PtrckHri
Like most south-east asians, lao are of tan skin of different tones. The notherners are usually lighter than the southerners. And the girls are usually of ligher skin than the boys.

But don't you think having a tan skin colour makes you look healthier than having a pale skin?
I do think so. I hate the winter here because I look pale and unhealthy without much outdoor activity.

These are some lao boys and girls after their graduation.

We both grow rice, some of our dances the tinikling look similar to that of Thais bamboo stick dancing. And we are genetically asian.

Being Buddhist and having an indian influenced culture doesn't make you SEAsian.
Tell me this what do you have in common with Viets or Malaysia.
ChuonCheat_Khmer
LOL grow rice.. those island countries basically have the same terrain as the mainland. rice is a native crop of SEAsia. those island countries just got separated from the mainland hundreds of thousands years ago. the tinkling dance huh? is that all?

yes, you do have to practice buddhism somewhat because buddhism was introduced throughout asia by the indians thousands of years ago. china, japan, korea, vietnam, laos, cambodia, thailand, indonesia(don't know about now) all practice buddhism in one form or another. our foods are also similar. stir fried dishes, soups, desserts, dances, arts and basically everything else. we also use chopsticks LOL.

sorry to break it to ya, but the philippines and the filipino people have very little in common with SEAsians and East Asians.

oops, i forgot burma! they also practice buddhism and share a lot of similarities with them too!

Thats just the white mans stereotyping of asian culture, loser. Filipinos have noodles too we call it pancit. Geez so buddhism didn't make it big in the Philippines so what. That doesn't take anything away from filipinos. Basically your saying since were nothing like khmers then we probably aren't South East Asians. embarassedlaugh.gif

LOL and for your information were not p-islander. Modern filipino culture is spanish influenced, loser.

And does she look non-asian to you because she happens to be filipina. embarassedlaugh.gif

Filipinos are still asian, lol you don't have to be khmer to be asian.
User1
Calm down guys.. I think the similarities in looks of us all is undeniable, even if there are a lot of differences. Let's look at the bigger picture. And the most important thing is that we are all human beings. I know it's hard to do when you are in an argument and I've been in that situation but this particular battle has been going on for like 3 days.. Enough already.

I'm not saying this because I want to be a goodie goodie but sometimes enough is enough.. I came on today and saw 5 closed threads and my name brought into it.. I'm sick of this constant fighting.

Enough is enough. Most of the pics shown in this thread differ in skin tone by not much.. In fact most Chinese in Chinatown are darker than that. And tan skin often looks more healthy and attractive, especially for us average, non-celeb people.
ChuonCheat_Khmer
whenever i interact with filipinos, i just can't connect with them culturally.. it's like interacting with foreigners from another land..but with other asians such as laotians, thais and to some extent the vietnamese, i can connect with them culturally..

And Im sure you get the same thing like-wise from filipinos. They probably think they are interacting with an african or something.
ChuonCheat_Khmer
sure you do because you're spanish/american/pacific islanders. i've encountered a lot of filipinos claiming to have spanish, american and pacific islander heritage. JUST CANNOT CONNECT WITH THEM AT ALL!!!

EDIT: i don't know how to explain it but...whenever i'm around filipinos, i just don't get this "asian" vibe yunno? i just don't feel the "asian" atmosphere whenever i'm around them. i don't know how to explain it..

LOL those filipinos who think they are pacific-islanders are confused traitors. And those claiming to have spanish heritage are like that because the spanish have made us think that we are spanish. Doesn't matter that filipinos have an spanish influenced culture it doesn't take away from the fact that we look asian and are asian.
ChuonCheat_Khmer

i think that indians have more similarities in culture with SEAsians and to some extent East asians with buddhism and all than filipinos do... filipinos can perfectly fit in with the spanish, americans and pacific islanders..just my opinion..

not to mention, indians were probably the first asians to use incense in religious ceremony than the use of incense became widespread throughtout mainland asia and japan and korea.

LOL your not giving reasons that filipinos are not asian. Your just giving reasons why filipinos are not indians. And stop mentioning P-islanders we have nothing in common with them. Its like me saying khmers are better of being called an african country.

Does she look like an P-Islander to you
ChuonCheat_Khmer
well, with the cultural influence india had in SEAsia and religious influence it had in East Asia, buddhism could also be known as an asian religion. it's been a part of asia for thousands of years. so the indians also had a profound impact culturally in asia and i consider them more "asian" than filipinos.

Well the Philippines has been influenced by China, so what. They gave us mah jong and noodles. And some words in tagalog are chinese influenced.

So India is an asian country because they influenced some SEAsian countries. embarassedlaugh.gif

no, you don't get it.. buddhism is not as popular as it once was back in ancient times in india. buddhism has been flourishing throughout asia and it became an important part of each asian ethnic culture: the chinese, japanese, koreans, khmers, laotians, vietnamese and thai. buddhism teaches discipline and tolerance. it could also be labeled an ASIAN religion since it is more popular in asia than it is in india. hinduism is now the most widespread in india. buddhism is an important part of most asian societies..

indonesians were once buddhist and i read somewhere that there are still pockets left of buddhist followers in indonesia. as for malaysia, they are similar to philippines but they are not as foreign to us as the filipinos are. maybe it's because malaysia wasn't colonized by america and spain.. iono..

my parents just got back from india. they told me there were thousands of buddhist followers from china, japan, korea, cambodia, vietnam, thailand and burma visiting the birth place of the Buddha.
