Sharon Cuneta just laughed at the rumors which had her going into coma because of an overdose of anesthesia when she gave birth to her third baby, Miel, in September. “Whoever put out that rumor probably just wanted me to come out in the open,” the megastar told us and a dozen other writers whom she invited to have lunch with her at their Santa Rosa, Laguna, residence last Monday.
“Whoever thought of this rumor probably wanted me to come out and correct the rumor myself. They probably miss me so much that they thought of circulating this rumor para makita naman nila ako,” said Sharon, who has lost more than 30 pounds since giving birth to her third angel. “Kahit naman mataba pa ako eh sexy pa rin naman ako. I feel so blessed. Sabi siguro ng Diyos, ‘Anak, marami ka na namang blessings kaya hahayaan muna kitang mataba sa ngayon.”
She continues to breast-feed Miel, the nickname of her three-month-old baby Mariel Daniela Sophia Cuneta Pangilinan, and that’s why she can’t go on a diet. Besides, their Laguna property has a vegetable garden where she can get a fresh supply of vegetables anytime. How can she resist eating vegetables harvested from their garden?
Sharon is busy with her work as executive producer of Pasyon USA, the latest project of Unitel Films where she’s the coproducer. The movie stars Robin Padilla and Rufa Mae Quinto under the direction of Mark Meily, who directed the award-winning Crying Ladies for which Sharon won her first international Best Actress award from the Brussels Independent Film Festival.
She’s also preparing for a concert tour sometime May next year. She has met with ABS-CBN officials with regard to her show but nothing has been finalized. “I want another musical talk show like Sharon but I want something better. I really want to do something like Oprah so that we can discuss more topics. I’d probably start with the TV show in February,” said the megastar.

Raki Vega, the 23-year-old music teacher from Cebu, won the coveted Born Diva title at the grand finals of the ABS-CBN show of the same name, which was held on November 27. Raki still can’t quite believe her good fortune. “Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala. Hindi pa nag-sink in sa isip ko na ako nga ang nanalo,” said the petite Cebuana, who came to Manila in August to take part in the contest.
Raki won a P200,000 cash prize, a recording contract with Star Records, six months worth of beauty treatment at Salon West, six months worth of footwear sponsorship from Figlia and a house and lot from Filinvest Land Inc. at Ciudad de Calamba. Her winning medley was composed of “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Come In Out of the Rain” (which she sang as a duet with fellow Cebuana Sheryn Regis) and “Today,” an original song by Trina Belamide which she sings on the Born Diva album.
And now that she’s won, “I just hope that people will accept me as I am and support me,” said Raki. “I’m very grateful to Born Diva. If not for this contest, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this.” She’s also thankful to Sheryn, who was very supportive when they did the duet. “Natakot nga ako sa kanta kasi ang taas-taas. Baka ako pumiyok. Pero, thank God, naabot ko naman ang tono.”
Raki is coming home to Cebu today and she will surely be welcomed in style. She will have a motorcade from the airport and then she will have a courtesy call to the mayor of Cebu, as well as to the governor of the province. Tomorrow she will have a free show at the Ayala Center Mall for her kakabayan.
