Full Version: Why Do So Many Lao Claim To Be Mixed Thai???

I know alot of Lao people in my area claim to be mixed Thai and I find it strange that these Lao people are usually the ones that are big fans of Thai media and entertainment. I was at a Lao house party awhile ago and all they talked about was Thailand, Thai movies and Thai music. Alot of them showed animosity to Thailand and some even said they were mixed Thai so they can't hate the Thais like that. This isn't the first time I hear about Lao people's obsession with Thailand. Prior to that I know a Lao girl who is my homeboy's sister and if u see her room all you see is Thai celebrities hanging up her walls as posters, all she listens to is Thai pop music. Matter of fact her whole family listens to Thai songs. "I asked her why would you listen to Thai songs rather than Lao?" You know what she replied? She said "Because I can understand them and I am mixed Thai plus Lao music isn't as good and they don't make that much music." embarassedlaugh.gif It's funny she said she was mixed Thai because her brother is one of my close friends and we had a conversation prior to that and he is one of those Anti-Thai Lao people like Savan he hates the Thais to the fullest. His family is so Lao I bet the only place they've step foot in Thailand was the refugee camps. It's funny that the sister claimed to be half-Thai and her brothers dispies Thai. embarassedlaugh.gif

Don't get me wrong I watch some Thai movies (with subtitles) but I never say to people I am mixed Thai. Btw it was one of my Lao friend who got me into it. embarassedlaugh.gif

I find it funny alot of Lao like to bash Thais but these are the same Lao people that rather listen to Thai music and open up Thai resturants than their own Lao resturant confused.gif

Are they embarrassed to be Lao?
sawan
Even Savan has been listening to Thai songs, watching Thai soap, but love to bash Thai people. embarassedlaugh.gif

I think he can even read/write Thai better than Lao. embarassedlaugh.gif

One word to explain their behavior, "jealous." icon_smile.gif

There is no such thing as mixed Thai/Lao. Lao and Thai are the same tribe, just different kingdom and king. Same custom, almost the same language and writing enough to be understood on both sides. Instead of infatuating with the Thai vs Lao sibling rivalry, why not discuss how we cooperate and trade with the world and bring prosperity to the Tai tribe overall.

Alot of Thais may be Tai but not all. Thai is a nationality. Malays, Khmer-Surin, Mon, ect. are alsoThais. Just cause Lao is from the Tai stock it doesn't make them Thai. Tai yes, Thai no.

Thai people have no problem working with Lao.
Actually, Thai people in Thailand have been helping Laos since the first day communist Laos openned the country.
Only a couple of Lao yankees here who think they don't need Thai and Thailand. icon_smile.gif

Despite the fact that these Lao yankee hate us, we still want to help them and I even posted the idea of unification which I think it's the best way for Lao people to survive the next decades.

Thailand and Laos used to be the same country before the French came and spliited us.

Thai and Lao people in Laos should have no problem being unified into one country.

But for Lao yankee, they are just outsider, they need to be trained first.

They are too American to even adapt to Lao people in Laos, let alone blended with Thai.

They are too different from Lao people in Laos.

I only saw these yankee posting about Lao silk, Lao food, Lao tattoo, Lao etc. but none of them talked about the true value of Lao people, street people. How they eat, how they sit, how they squat, how they walk, how they clean their arse in Lao style toilet etc.

That's why I had to post this topic

How to be a true Lao from head to toe.

It's obvious that the OP is trying to hide the fact that Cambodians love telling people they have Thai blood because The Irrelevance have no self-confidence in their own Cambodian people.

Even the Cambodians I know admitted that many Cambodians prefer to say they are Thai rather than Cambodian.

On the other hand, Laotians are Tai, we are not Thai. The OP is a dip$hit for not knowing the difference. embarassedlaugh.gif

Siamese people changed their name to Thai, which is pronounced like our ethnic name Tai. So uneducated Khamen like thewiseguy assumed our Tai is the same word as Thai.

We're not going to stop using our ethnic Tai name just because Siamese people were ashamed of their name and had to change it to something that is confusingly similar to our name.

Unless you ask the person to write down the word they're saying, you would have no idea if they are saying Tai or Thai...both words are pronounced the same way. Now what is Cambodians people excuse for saying THAI because we know they are not Tai?

The OP is obviously still butt hurt by me based on this thread. embarassedlaugh.gif

Thank you for responding. My b!tch bit the bait again. embarassedlaugh.gif

Ask any cambodian outside of AF...they will tell you many cambodians will tell people they are thai just because they were born in a thai refugee camp. Cambodians prefer to be thai because no one knows what a cambodian is.

People know more about Cambodia and Cambodians more than they do Laos. Hahaha!

Laos is the least known country in Asia. Even people knows more about Samoa, Somalia, Haiti than they do Laos. embarassedlaugh.gif eek.gif

I have met many Thais raised in the USA and I can tell with absolution that they have no idea what it is like being raised in South East Asian culture and attitude. These people are Americanized with American views always wanting to compete and very little samaki. The women are not as sweet as their S.E. Asian counterparts but more like their American counterparts, pure number 12 grit sand paper. I grew up in Nonthaburi, Thailand when it was still mostly grass land and durian plantation and raised by common villagers from places like Kampaeng Phet, Ang Thong, Si Saket, Lopburi, etc....

You don't have to confirm people all the time that you are Thai.

It's too obvious.

Everyone "believe" that you are Thai already. icon_smile.gif

Unfortunately I have to agree that Americanised Asians are sooooooo annoying.

American culture is unrefined to say the least and it shows quite well on those who are born or raised in that culture. No manners is one big problem I have with them the other would have to be the same problem most people around the world have with them. Their lack of knowledge about the rest of the world.

They only know about american ideals and beliefs and try to implement that on Asian culture customs and anything else they try to assimilate into their Ameritardness without knowing true facts behind it.

This can be clearly seen by members of AF who have no links with their Asian counterparts regarding any of the subjects that they try so hard to be a part of. It could be that subconciously they are trying to find out the truth about themselves but they are too stubborn/stupid to ask people rather than just making lots of noise and spreading false claims untill someone corrects them. I think this is the "crying out for help" situation that most kids go through.

Other members like Buddhalove doesn't have a clue about anything apart from focusing on the same 3 things that he must have learned from the internet. It gets old, everyone knows abot it already. Majority of garlee in Thailand are Laos. Srirasimi looks better than Laos queen (if there was ever such a thing still in existance in which case we will match her up with Buddhaloves mum instead which saddly falls into the first category. Bitter about his mums profession so he projects onto the Thai people lol). The jeks ar the ones keeping Laos alive with trade and tourist money. without Thai jeks Laos will not exist. Without Thailand, Laos people will all starve to death under crappy communist regime.

These are the facts dear people. Deal with it.

No not more Asian. But we are different in behaviour and ways of thinking. I think its easier to class us as in a similar light to Hi-So Thai as the majority of Thai people any of us ever come across to influence us are Hi-So.

Even working class people are associated with Hi-So's in Thailand. Thats not to say that there arent people who are tid din. Though I think the biggest difference is that we know more about our own culture and background than americans do. There is not much need for us or british people to segregate racial groups. London is a BIG multicultural society, so people had no need to be different to fit in.

In american culture you have to "act like a" to be that thing. In English culture, they will put up with you whatever you are, just as long as you aren't disturbing the status quo.
