NISSAN LEAF, cars are a bad investment

Regular cars are the worst investment.
Nissan Leaf is really a bad idea made appealing cuz of the green factor
Still, to invest so much money into this ... when a regular car cost much less and there's a gas station every few blocks???
Doesn't make much sense yet

Just wait for gasoline price to soar.

Just wait for gasoline price to soar.

Ask yourself how electricity is generated??
Natural gas, oil, hydro, wind, coal ... all these will impact the price of the electricity you use.
More demand for electric cars will also affect the price you will pay to charge your car.

Then think about what you would do ...
If your electric car was running low of electric charge??
If your car was low on gas?
Which would be easier and faster to refuel??

There is still much that needs to be addressed before electric cars become the norm.

At least electric cars can pack extra batteries along.

Extra batteries means extra weight and therefore less mileage per charge
With everything you do, there are costs involved. Some are in plain sight
Others are hidden and will come back to bite you in the butt. embarassedlaugh.gif

A Car that burns hydrogen

Do you know nothing about engineering???
Any fuel takes up space ... hydrogen takes an enormous amount of space.
Pack it into a smaller space and it becomes heavy .. not just the hydrogen but the container to hold it.
You really need to become more educated first then come back and post on AF

Do some research about people who live near power lines.
Or better yet, try it on yourself and see it doesn't cause cancer eek.gif

Change the timing on an ordinary internal combustion engine and it can run on hydrogen
That's not the problem ... why don't you try thinking first then post.

H2O
avisitor
QUOTE (ClassicalMusic @ Mar 12 2011, 07:42 PM) *

H2O

H2O is too stable a compound to be used as fuel.
Only the Hydrogen part can be used as fuel
Oxygen part can be used for oxygenation
However, using plain water, is impossible to get more energy out of it than you put into it
So it can't be used as fuel!!!

Go get an engineering degree first ... then make posts on AF
otherwise, all you got is hearsay and opinion
none of which can make an engine run

I prefer used cars from 6~10 years old. If you inspect the car well before buying, you get great value for the money. In addition, general depreciation for cars in this age bracket is about $500.00 each year(depends on the car of course). Compared to new cares losing 1/3 of their value in the first year.

Such cars need periodical repair but still are way cheaper to run than new cars. If you know how to fix your own car then you can save money big time!

I believe all men should have tools and know how to use them. That way, you can take advantage of whats around you. icon_wink.gif

I've seen cars break down on the highway.
Guy stops the car and gets out to open the hood
Do you think most of those guys even know how to find what wrong with the car much less fix it on the highway???

Yeah, I like clean used cars that are in very good condition.
The depreciation makes the car's value inexpensive to obtain
Maintenance is a different issue

In America, I'd say 1/4 have some idea and 1/8 no what to do. Hell, I've replaced hoses, water pumps, Alternators even an EGR Valve on the side of the street. Many people can.
avisitor
Most Americans only know to stick the key in the ignition and start the car.
Other than that, they don't know how a cars works and don't care to
If the car breaks down then they call the tow truck or AAA road side assistance

One time I was driving to Florida from New York.
I got to Georgia when my car just stopped working.
Pulled it over to the side of the road.

So, what do you do?
What are the three things that make an engine run?

The engine cranked .. so battery was good.
Pumped the gas pedal and saw there was gas going to the carburetor (it was a long time ago).
Pulled off a spark plug wire and used a screw driver to make a gap to ground .. to see if there was spark.
No spark. Open up the distributor and there was the problem.
The little rotor inside the distributor had broken into tiny pieces.
I needed a new rotor ... But, I didn't have a spare.
I went to the side of the road and looked at the trash there.
There was a Popsicle stick and foil from a cigarette pack.
Luckily I still had some tools in the car.
Made a temporary rotor and got the car started.
Drove to the next town and waited for the auto parts store to open
Got the replacement part and finished my road trip to Florida.

If you know something about cars then you don't have to be afraid of used cars. (sometimes ... lol)
