I realized that shampoo is one of the biggest scams in history. Shampoo is basically detergent, it strips your hair of the natural oils which make it lustrous and shiny. In another thread I posted about how my hair was always so dry and poofy. I have only used conditioner with cold water for the past few days and I've noticed a big difference. My hair lays flatter and is more moisturized. It feels softer too. I recommend everyone to try this.

somehow i dont believe so
u need to learn what kind of hair n scalp u have n get the appropriate shampoo/conditioner/treatment for it
like i have very oily scalp plus the condition of my workplace isnt helping..so i use a shampoo that gets rid of the buildup to clear my scalp n enhance growth of new hair...n i moisturize with conditioner only at my tips because conditioners r oil based thats y they moisturize better..n i wont let it touch my scalp...for guys..since ur hair is shorter so it might be different too..im not a hair expert but yeah thats what ive learned so far from them about my hair
my worse nightmare : 1) my teeth broke or gone bad ...2) turning bald

If I don't use shampoo, then instead of shiny hair I just get greasy hair.

Shampoo - dry, flat, very clean hair. nice smell
Soap/baking soda/just water - shiny, poofy, slightly oilier hair. no smell

Don't wash your hair everyday. On days you don't wash your hair, use dry shampoo to refresh it.
I read the more you wash your hair, the more oily it gets. If you keep it a habit of washing your hair every other day or every 3 days, or whenever you really need to, then your hair learns not to get so oily when it skips a day of washing.

you also start to smell. the downsides of not using shampoo aren't worth it.

Try Nivea's Body Wash + Shampoo. It cleans my hair but doesn't leave it all dry like other shampoos tend to.
I use Nivea because it has Sodium Laureth Sulfate instead which doesn't dry my skin out as much as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
Oh here's a tip, order it from Amazon. With the subscription, you can get a 3 pack for about $12 with free shipping and you don't have to worry about it have been contaminated with people opening it (like at Walmart lol).

That's why you use dry shampoo in between washes..
Anyway, I just bought this shampoo bar yesterday.. there are a lot of good reviews on it. maybe you should give it a try. Check out the overall ratings! Nothing below a four so far that I have seen! They claim there's no detergent, and they also claim that you don't have to use conditioner since it doesn't strip away the natural oil. I bought it for 6.99 at a local vitamin store.

I still use shampoo and conditioner every other/2 days, but I've changed my shampoos to sulfate-free and paraben free shampoos. This has helped me considerably. My hair falls out less now, and it's growing like weeds.

Hi,
I used to wash my hair with shampoo every day. Sometimes I washed it twice a day if I had another shower. It was just a habit, when I was in the shower, I would always wash my hair. It seemed a completely normal thing to do. My shampoo wasn’t tested on animals, so why not wash my hair every day?

Hey OP, while you're at it you should consider installing a shower filter too if your water contains chlorine in it. Yes, chlorine was added to water to kill bacterias, but it is very detrimental to the skin and hair as well. In addition to that, when water is heated, chlorine becomes a poisonous gas that will readily destroy body tissues when inhaled. I've been using shower filter for almost 7 months now and my hair and skin never look better, well maybe since I was a kid lol. Chlorine also dry and damage hair leaving it dull looking and feel sort of "crunchy".
As for shampoo, the ONLY brand that I use is Dr. Bronner brand which only has natural ingredients. As a rule, I don't want to put any chemicals on my body that I wouldn't put in my mouth.

Shampoo is good it's just there's a lot of CRAPPY shampoo out there nowadays. What you need to look for is 'sulfate-free shampoo". Sodium Laureth Sulfate is a chemical that is used in a lot of shampoos and it's a chemical that makes the shampoo very lathery. It also dries out the hair A LOT!!!.
What I use is a shampoo by the brand Nature's Gate. It's the best stuff ever!! I happen to use the aloe one right now. It smells nice too. You can check out the reviews on Amazon and you'll find that the shampoos from Nature's Gate all have almost 5 stars! It's only natural ingredients and completely sulfate free.
=)
Also, if you really don't wanna use shampoo... a mix of half apple cider vinegar and half water makes an awesome hair rinse in the shower. Your hair will be soft, silky, and dandruff free!
