Hi this is my first thread here so take it easy on me lol. I was born in Cadiz Negros Occidental but most of my life was spent here in Canada. Thanks to my parents I can speak almost fluently in ilongo but unfortunately my tagalog isnt so well (crap actually). Ive never been taught how to write in Ilongo so i was wondering if anyone here has been? do they even teach it at all?. And if you were from a different city would you have a different slang?. Anyways if anyone is interested id like to practice my ilongo writing if anyone is interested.

Taga Cadiz ako, kamo ya diin nga ciudad?

^ Hi there, i was born In Davao DelNorte. I can understand some Ilongo, its a little bit similar in Bisaya. I think in the Philippines, every school there has "Filipino" class/subject so eventhough you speak a different dialect... they still teach you basic tagalog.

Dugay na ka diha sa Canada?
Kanlungan

I guess the negros ilongo is a bit more hispanishized if thats word. IVe never had any instruction on how to write the language, im just spelling it as it sounds hehe.
Kanlungan
I see, I see. It's different in tagalog. Spanish loans have been localized. Ciudad =>Siyudad.
RL33
Interesting so i was writing it in spanish. What about the numerical system is it spelled differently as well?
Kanlungan
yup..localized.. alas singko y medya instead of alas cinco y media (did i spell it corrrectly?)

kuwatro instead of cuatro.. very localized.

BTW, how do you spell singkwenta? Is is cincuenta?
RL33
lol your guess is as good as mine, they both "sound" right to me either way.
joonson
i like the diction of Ilonggo... they sound so sweet. sure.gif

"to^" bala.. daw "noy".. hehe anyway, bisaya kami. mas budlay kaysa sa ilonggo based on my experience. ayawan kamo ka-inchindi sa amon kay tig-a maghambal mga bisaya. hiligaynon has a gentle touch even though it is already being spoken angrily.. am i right? ^_^ bisaya is otherwise. even a simple request spoken in bisaya may sound like an order. lol
