PAS Youth’s Valentine’s Day crackdown draws flak

PETALING JAYA: PAS Youth’s proposed Valentine’s Day crackdown has drawn flak from the Youth wings of MCA, Gerakan and DAP.

MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said moral policing on Valentine’s Day indicated that the Pakatan Rakyat state governments were starting to implement Islamic policies.

“Although PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had said during the Tenang by-election that the Islamic state is an old issue, we know that it was just a tactic to cheat voters,” he said in response to PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hasan Tantawi’s statement that local authorities in Kedah, Kelantan and Selangor would conduct checks to curb immoral activities on Valentine’s Day.

Dr Wee urged these state governments to make a stand on Nasrudin’s claim that there would be a Valentine’s Day crackdown in Pakatan Rakyat states.

“It is very disappointing and sad to see that PAS has failed to walk the talk,” he said.

Kedah Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang called on PAS Youth to mind its own business.

“I urge Pakatan Rakyat to re-examine any plans to undermine Valentine’s Day in Pakatan Rakyat states.

“Don’t prejudge the morality of those celebrating Valentine’s Day,” he added.

Dapsy chief Anthony Loke Siew Fook said it did not agree with PAS Youth’s plan to play moral police and check on couples on Valentine’s Day.

“The campaign was never discussed with PKR Youth or Dapsy,” he said.

He also added that PAS Youth had no right to speak on behalf of the Pakatan Rakyat state governments.

“The power of enforcement lies with the state governments,” he said.

In an immediate response, Nasrudin said the local and religious authorities would be taking action based on existing rules and regulations.

“In Selangor, for example, enforcement activities are already in force to check immoral activities among Muslims.

“I am sure none of the state governments condone immoral activities,” he said.

The Valentine’s Day issue that was first highlighted in The Star has attracted global attention with Time magazine’s online edition and foreign wire agencies picking it up.

In August last year, Nasrudin said that Valentine’s Day and New Year celebrations were among the major causes of baby dumping in Malaysia as both occasions had encouraged liberal socialising and free sex.

Two foetuses found in separate locations

KUALA LUMPUR: Two foetuses were found dumped in separate locations three hours apart in Sentul and Dang Wangi.

The first foetus, believed to be a female, was found at the Metro Prima Kepong sewage treatment plant.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan said initial investigations revealed that the foetus is less than five months old.

Smart of MCA Youth chief Dr Wee Ka Siong to take the opportunity to say that Pakatan Rakyat has started to implement Islamic teachings. To assume that just because one of the party affiliates does it, means that it is approved by all.

He has a very reliable sense of judgment, and Dapsy's protest against PAS' action is a mere cover-up that the good people of Malaysia should not gullibly believe.


@chutzpah: +1 for the next post, but if I were to play the devil's advocate I'd say it's not a strong argument enough. Because Nasruddin did not deny that liberal sex also happened after Valentine's Day, or even during Ramadhan. He's just saying that most of it occurs on NY and Valentine's Day. What we need are some delicious statistics.

No, I am not suggesting Malaysians are gullible, but the large majority of the Malays seem to support most these issues, why else would the government and the opposition play the race and religion cards? BTW in Kelantan there is a move to implement sharia and anti blasphemy laws to all. That says a lot about PAS.

1. I am referring to how govt parties are always taking advantage of situations to downplay the opposition. Here MCA Youth chief Dr Wee blamed the whole of PR (Pakatan Rakyat - an opposition alliance) for PAS' Valentine's Day crackdown. He's assuming that it is approved by the whole of PR, when obviously it isn't (refer to Dapsy's chief's protest).

what do you expect when the majority of the people are muslims.. these politician would continue playing their part pleasing their voters, PAS seeking for the malays and MCA trying to get more chinese votes, you can do the math. i'm not surprised by how radical PAS and their policy, the pathetic grandpas in umno, the shambles PKR that practically fighting for nothing and the dynasty of DAP that tries to emulate PAP in singapore.
