I believe that way back when there was no such thing as mass media, people weren't as obsessed with beauty. Everyone lived in a very small world and only saw people they came into daily contact with. So everyone's standard for beauty was lower.

But now, with TV and especially with the internet, the world is at your fingertips. An ordinary person just seems so insignificant and small.

Is it better to be a girl or a guy? A girl's job seems even more so to look good for guys. Thats a big part of their life. Obsessing over this and that. And because of the media, guys' standards has risen higher. every guy thinks they'll eventually settle down with someone near their standards. We're even more shallow. This causes girls compare themselves to what is "perfect".

And even when they do eventually get hitched, they have to keep the guy interested in them or else he might go have an affair. While having kids and working, she has to look good at the same time.

Sometimes I wonder what's the point of life. There exists people in this world who are above all of this and are entirely content but it seems the only way to do this is to separate yourself from the world mentally and live off in your own little realm.

But to survive in this world, you must go with the times and run along with it.

So how to achieve happiness? Is there something that is of higher entity than beauty? Even if you yourself aren't obsessed with beauty, the fact that everyone else is makes you worried as well. Its like a disease, a virus.

You want to hate all those perfect looking models in magazines but you can't because you admire beauty and you admire them.

Is the only way to achieve perfect contentment is to go become a monk in a monastery in the middle of nowhere and cut yourself off from the world?

agreed. girls have the double advantage over guys. they can cry and appear weak and nobody will hold it against them. whereas a guy has to appear strong even if he's hurting inside.

but then again, being a girl, in most guys' eyes, you're a sex a object until they get to know you better. most guys wouldn't even want to get to know a girl if they didn't think she was attractive in the first place. yup, we're bastards.

probably a guy. most guys i know take a shower, throw somethin on, brush/comb their hair and girls go on about how "hot" they are. Girls will take like 2 hours to get ready just to go to a party and even then some people will still comment on something wrong with their looks. i've seen it before.

yah but it sucks being a guy as well. for one thing, when two girls go out together, there's nothing wrong. but if two guys hang out and do stuff together, its gay.
