Would you be talking of tikoy?

which now comes in many flavors including ube, strawberry and pandan? haven't tasted them... only the traditional white and brown ones.
On the Queso de Bola thing ... it's one of those foods you have to develop a taste for ... Given a choice between that and cheddar cheese, I'd choose cheddar. I think I have tasted one brand that was okay but can't remember what that was. I only buy them to give away as gifts or as an ingredient in rellenong manok (stuffed chicken).

that's what it is. the funny thing about it, i think both tikoy and questo de bola are, though not originally, made and influenced by chinese. i like the look of queso de bola cuz it makes it look like youi're making it like a bountiful looking decoration or something. but yeah i dislike the taste.
and yeah thanks taht is what it is tikoy. my aunt use to work, not anymore but still in touch, with a inchik family. they always give her boxes of them.

queso de bola is like really salty cheddar cheese, shaped as a ball. or bola, then the skin is artifical dark red.
sticky rice in banana? do you dip it in sugar? that's suman. there are different variaties of those. my granpa is like a master in making cassava sumans.

I cut cheddar cheese into thin slices and munch on 'em, though.
As to why tikoy is given to friends ... symbolically you're hoping that you will remain fast friends (friends stick to each other).
Queso de Bola is I believe something Spanish, but I guess we blended it into Chinese beliefs that we ought to have something round in the hopes that the coming year will bring us lots of money.
