When I see Gypsies, some look Eastern European, Middle Eastern or Latino. Do they practice Hinduism, or they adopted elements of their Christian and Muslim neighbors?

The gypsies Adapt. Someone should do a DNA test on them to determine their origins although some writers have suggested that they came from India.

They are of Indian descent.

These Roma(Thats the correct name of the gypsies) girls can easily pass for an Indian.

As far as I have read, the Romas are basically from the NW of Indian sub-continent, who moved north and then west for many centuries. On their way to continuous migration, they have been mixed with east european bloods which then spread among them. This is why they have different faces and shades of complexions.

The Romas can be partially compared to the Israelis or more specifically the Jews of today. They never had nomadic habits, but they moved from their native lands in the Arabia to all over europe and settled themselves in those countries. People of a certain religion are not supposed to be racially different from other religionists living in the same region, but Israelis do not look exactly like the Arabians. This happened because during the course of this movement of population, they also have been mixed with the local population of europe where they had domiciled.

Studying the faces and physique of the "Roma gypsies," they remind me very much of the southern Indian rather than the northern Indian. Some of you may or may not agree:

QUOTE
When talking about the culture, there is vast difference between North and South India. One can come across differences in their music (Northern Hindustani and Southern Carnatic), dance forms and folks.

Summary:

1. North India lies in the Indo-Gangetic plain. South India is situated in the Peninsular Deccan Plateau.

2. North Indians are termed as Aryans, and the South Indians as Dravidians.

3. The North Indians are taller, and more strongly built than the South Indians. The South Indians are a bit darker than the North Indians.

4. When compared to the North Indian food, the South Indian food is spicier.

5. The South Indians use more tamarind and coconut when compared to North Indians.

HaVE YOU EVER MET A ROMA? Have you any photos?

Miriana Djeordsevic, holds up a picture of her daughter Violeta, 11, who drowned along with her sister Christina, 13, last month. She lives at a Roma camp in Naples. Shortly before the girls died they gave their fingerprints to the authorities, part of a new initiative being led by interior minister, Roberto Marroni, to fingerprint every member of the Roma minority

You can even detect the Hindu symbol on her forehead. She sure doesn't look like an African.

Gypsies are a VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM IN EUROPE. And a problem that has been persistent for many years. Gypsies are exploiting the welfare system of the West and is a heavy burden on taxes and thus the public.
har

Why don't they do any genetic testing on Gypsies to make sure instead of going along with the language arguments?

A small percentage of Gypsies probably are Indian, I doubt that women and children were taken on their wanderings from India, more than likely they are whats left of the Hurrians.

They are originally of Indian descent and their appearances vary based on their geographic location.

They still exist in India today but are and always have been ethnic minorities.

Although they have Aryan/Dravidian roots, many have become very European looking through heavy interbreeding with local populations.

Think of the Mongol Tatars that have become Caucasian in Europe or the Middle Eastern Jews that have become Asian looking in Keifeng, China.

They are well-reknown for fortune telling too. Many people fear or stay away from them. They look Latino/Mediterranean to me (the ones I have seen).

And recent DNA tests do show a India sub-continent connection for them.
AsiaticGlory
They look South Asian. I haven't met a gypsy before so I can't comment on their behavior.

Gypsies (gitanos in Spanish ) are found in great numbers in Romania and to a greater extent in Spain. Supposedly, there are 700.000 to one million in Spain. They arrived around 1425.

QUOTE
Unlike some other European countries, the gypsy population in Spain is more settled and integrated into the foreign culture, marked with their contribution to Spanish culture. However, their standard of living has been always under debate by human rights activists.

Some of the women can be very attractive (they look Latina, mix of Indian with European features). But, people know they have magic and stay away from them
North
Gypsy is a derogatory term. They prefer to be call Romani.

Yes they are of Indian origin but they also have Central Asian, West Asian, and European genes as well seeing as numerous marriages between them and other groups have occurred.

They migrated out of India nearly 1000 years ago and they have a unique culture with most of it's Indian influence lost.

Most Romani people are Christian or Muslim, Hinduism is non-existent among the communities, however some folk belief's similar to Hindu one's may still exist.
