Wasn't that posted here once? We can keep using this thread or any other similar thread so we can easily keep the track of all the relevant info at hand.

Was that so? i didn't check that, sorry.
If this vid already had posted, then i will delete this one.

I just made a new topic cause i thought character of this vid is little different from that KPOP of France.
And i think if we can keep the track of all Kpop info at hand, it will be better we make new topic of more decent title.
Or change the title of the existing topic?

We can also make this very thread the OFFICIAL one lol Just make the title more general and inclusive about K-Wave and put some links of previous relevant threads in your OP and it will look dandy.

You can name it as "The Official Korean Wave aka Hallyu Thread" for example and we can talk about international activities and reports in general.

Why did he quit the group? Was he less popular after he withdrew? Its my understanding that most kpop stars suffer great pressure as there are so many competitive rookies debuting everyday in kpop industry.

QUOTE
Korean media outlets are reporting that on May 27th, SG Wannabe’s former member Chae Dong Ha (30) committed suicide by hanging himself in his home in Bulkwang-dong.

The Eunpyung-gu rescue team received a report from Chae’s manager on the morning of the 27th. They stated, “He was pronounced dead on the scene, and police have confirmed the identity of his body.”

His agency stated, “Chae Dong Ha has always suffered from depression. He recently returned after completing his Japanese promotions. This morning, we weren’t able to get into contact with him so we called 911 and later discovered him.”

Many are speculating that Chae Dong Ha’s depression sourced from the suicide of his former manager, who passed away two years ago inhaling gas in a motel room.

In his official comeback album, “Essay“, Chae Dong Ha had written a special message to the manager, which read,“It was a moment more exciting than my first kiss. My first
manager. My consolation, my friend, and my hyung. The moment I met that
person, I had received the whole world. As of June 9th, 2009, he is no longer by
my side. Half of my heart is still missing. Still. ’Hyung, you have to be happy, okay? Promise me that you’ll be happy…’”

If you like comedy but 16-18 episodes of a mini series drama is too long for you, check out this 2005 movie called "Quiz King" also known as Mr. Housewife.

This humorous film centers on the madcap life of Oh Jin Man (Han Suk Kyu), a former corporate suit turned stay-at-home husband, who's served in that capacity for the last six years. When a moneymaking scheme goes horribly awry, Jin Man is forced to take some drastic action in order to raise the thirty million won he needs to recoup.

His brilliant solution? Win the prize on a television game show! While not exactly practical, the plan is possible, that is, if it weren't for a lingering little problem - the quiz show is meant for housewives only! Jin Man, however, remains undaunted by the gender discrimination and finds away around the rules...............

Synopsis

A man wakes up one morning to find a beautiful young woman sleeping nude beside him. Neither of them can remember the previous night’s events. After trying to walk away from the incident and get back to his normal life as a lawyer, he quickly learns several important facts: 1. The girl is the daughter of a big crime boss. 2. She was allegedly a virgin before he had his way with her. 3. He can either choose to marry her, or be murdered. The circumstances are very suspicious, and it seems possible that he’s somehow been framed into this position. But even a lawyer would have trouble talking his way out of this one–especially when the judge and jury are not at all impartial, are not his peers, all carry weapons, and want to kill him if he says the wrong thing.

Thanks for the links guys! Will spend a lot of time watching Korean movies this weekend. icon_smile.gif

I really like The Foul King as the character actor is VERY GOOD, and it showcases a lot of Asian societal issues, like the salarimen. Even the wrestling segments are hilarious, i laughed so hard and cried so hard within the same movie.

Incidentally, the "Mr Housewife" has those elements too, but it turned a bit too conventional at the happy end.

What I don't understand is, how is it possible for the wife to SLAP her husband and move out, when he didn't even do anything wrong? Also, the korean women are portrayed as very aggressive in the movie, when I get the impression that the society is more male-dominated, and women like "My Sassy Girl" are rare.

Maybe 'cause that offers some form of escape fantasy and it's just hilarious. Korea is quite male-dominated at workplaces but in a romantic relationship or at home, females don't really have the lower hand in their dynamics.

Most of stories are strictly fiction and overly exaggerated.
They are far from reality.

"Friends" was the first drama in television history that was co-produced between Korea (MBC) and Japan (TBS) in 2002.
Drama was filmed in Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.
Won Bin and Fukada Kyoko were main actors.

Synopsis

Left alone on a trip to Hong Kong, Tomoko (Fukada Kyoko) finds herself the victim of a purse-snatching. The police arrest the man she points out, but it turns out to be the wrong person: a young Korean man named Ji Hoon (Won Bin). Despite his anger and humiliation, he takes her out to dinner since she has lost all her money, and in return, she agrees to model for his amateur film. What follows is a magical and romantic two days. Upon returning to their respective countries, Tomoko must return to her nine-to-five job and Ji Hoon must resume studying to join the family business rather than pursuing his dream of becoming a film director. But soon the two begin to email each other and rekindle their relationship despite the distance and obstacles between them. Marking the very first time in television history that a drama has been co-produced between Japan and South Korea, the story shows us that love has no borders.

Yeah, I noticed! It's like a horror genre, eg. Japanese horror genre. I just have a queasy stomach, but I enjoyed the not-gory parts. Did you spot the Blade Runner tribute in there with the cartwheels?

I saw Marrying the Mafia too - it was a funny fantasy-romance.

If you guys are interested in a Pulp Fiction type absurd HK gangster movie, my favorite is Too Many Ways to be No. 1. It is hilariously pathetic, smashes a lot of stereotypes and I suspect shows a truer picture of the mobster's less-than-glamorous life. The first half is better than the second, imo. I think this ranks as one of my favorite movies ever.

Sunny didn't faint but she went to the hospital to get an IV drip during the concert. She came back before the end of the concert. One question that struck my mind is, what if Taeyeon was sick? She sings a lot of hard parts as the lead singer. I can't imagine SNSD performance without her. I hope they can take a bit of break for a few days until the SM concert in Paris.

After watching several more Korean films, I think my favorite Korean director has to be Bong Joon Ho. His films - The Host, Memories of Murder, Mother, etc. - are very subtle but emotionally-gripping thrillers in their own right, but I am amazed at how much of Korean societal issues and their meaning he managed to weave into every tale. The actors and actresses he chose are all great character talents, not superfluous, popular or eye-candy picks. Most of all, the subject he chose are all really unique, with a lot more depth than the usual. Of the 3, I think my fave are Mother and Memories of Murder, not just because they are terrifying Hitchcock-like stories, but because he paints such a vivid picture of small-town society with all the different characters with their neurosis and psychosis.

I can't wait to see his next major film!
