Also, you guys are right about me not living in Vietnam, however, I plan to relocate to Vietnam in 4 years after grad school. Do you guys all live in Vietnam?

It's the Chinese pronunciation of 西贡. I'm sure she's being sarcastic because, in reality she is as far as possible from Chinese. I believe in fact, every nucleotide in her every chromosome is the exact opposite of chinese. For example if Chinese is TATAC, she would be reversed CATAT.

It's a slang for Saigon. Seriously you must be so "quê" if you don't know what xigon means. But I don't blame lychy since he doesn't know much about Vietnam. He once asked what do Viet girls look like lmao.

@fireplant: It's not. You just take advantage of the similar notation. For once the "G" you guys use in Mandarin is actually the "C" in Vietnamese alphabet, not the G. Your "X" doesn't sound like Viet "X", Mandarin X is kind of closer to Vietnamese S (English Sh), but not really the same. Your "o" is actually "ô" or "u" in Viet, not "o". The tones are also way different. Of course if you just look at the letters and not sound everything out, they will look similar but when everything is sound out, they're not.

So to write 西贡 (Tây Cống in Sino-Vietnamese) in Vietnamese would be Si Cung, Xigon is far from it.

Thanks I would never figure it out on my own haha. You're right I don't know much about Vietnam but I went back for Tet this year in January. I was in Hanoi, Nha Trang, and Saigon. The last time I was in Vietnam was 15 years ago. I almost did not recognize anything! Pho was quite disappointing haha.
