http://www.asianjoke.com/videoxx/nipsthenips.wmvI'm not Japanese but it offended my Asian sensibilities to say the least. The worst scene was when Bugs was handing out all the ice cream. Not surprising I guess coming from the US, but it made me upset because I used to be a real fan of Warner Bros when I was a kid. I used to watch Tweety bird and Sylvester a lot, some of the cartoons were hilarious. For those of you who don't know, the word "n!p," is a racist term against the Japanese. Kinda hilarious because most Caucasian people think we are all the same.

Its not surprising considering the political climate of its time. I think every cartoon back then, made fun of the Japanese or Nazis at least once.
I once looked through a book that was filled with Dr.Seuss's political cartoons during World War 2, the way he portrayed the Japanese was even more racist then that Loony Toon episode.

Just a sign of the times...or, is it?

They did the same thing to the Germans as well, in almost the same way. There's one where Bugs Bunny goes to Germany and confronts a german soldier who talks in nothing but guttural noises. It's called war propaganda. You can't fight the "Krauts" or the "Nips" if don't turn public opinion against them.

This episode was irritating to watch. No wonder why I don't watch most of their cartoons.

Eesh...I agree with YManchun, those racist cartoons were just representative of the whole racist atmosphere of those times. Loony Toons didn't just make offensive cartoons of Asians...Native Americans, Hispanics, African Americans...all of them were drawn stereotypically and made fun of. I used to love Loony Toons as a kid, but when I happen to come across an old episode nowadays, it just kinda disgusts me...>.<;;

Um...it's called propaganda. Get over it.
Paul Revere and many other "American Heroes" made anti-British pamphlets and cartoons before and during the Revolutionary War. Take the Boston Massacre as an example.
