i was talking to my dad about the current condition of the philippines. and he told me, "the philippines was doing great until marcos became the president. then evrything went down the drain.".

can i pls ask for your guys opinion on this statement?

it's just that the bad things that happened during the Marcos regime outnumbered and outlast the good things he did... most especially during and after Martial Law.

good and bad things happened because of marcos.

i think Marcos as a dictator could have done a lot of good, something a usual president coudln't have done. cuz he has power. usually presidents have alot, but with the congress and the people, (oh we know how the people are...you piss the masses you out so presidents today are a bit more scared),

he could have done, revolutionize for good alot of things while he was in power. but he wasted the oppurtunity, which i think would not come bo pi in a while. he instead did a lot of scandals and corruption, with himself and his cadre.

i'd say the things that marcos brough postive is stronger Philippine nationalism, and a pseudo-protective feeling of many masses, that's why they supported him then and some even today.

marcos's negative, stagnating philippine economy, and taking billions in our funds, and using funds for uber nationalistic and dictatorial bull$hit. eg his statue.

Not sure but I've heard that the Pinoys(yung masses, not including the politicians) were more disciplined kasi nga martial law. They strictly obey daw the laws esp. the curfew.

hmmm, if i may read it askew... because of marcos, people then became more nationalistic... if you may research a bit, Marcos just took on the suggestion of an American when he declared Martial Rule... the Marcos regime also made for policies that left the PHilippines open for foreign exploitation... one of which is those big time mining companies.... Marcopper and others...

and the strenghthening of the Communist movement also came about because of the massive human rights abuse/violations conducted by the military under his regime... just so that his continues reign is ensured, he keeps harassing any opposition that emerges, remember Benigno Aquino, Jr.

What he did good are infrastructures, from which he made several financial killings, and... ummm...

but nationalistic, propagandic approach is the signature of marcos's dictatorial regime. ie nationalistic shows, harsh punishment for flag/anthem defilers, and other things like swearing and singing the national anthem in the morning before class etc

^ i was already an aware person right there when the Marcos regime was on it's final leg (early to mid 80s), but i don't remember that imposition on the citizenry... propaganda, yes, but only in terms of edifying himself... like having announced on national TV that he received these various medals of valors and such awards for his stunt in the military (which is a total farce...)

what i do remember is every day at school we are required raise the flag and to sing the anthem but that is SOP... and of course the curfew hours... and the big calendars provided by Marcos with Imelda wearing the famous Filipino patadyong or the Philippine national costume for women....

I think its scary during those times. Especially during martial law. My mom told me about what happened those years.
