These are PPP estimates. You need to use nominal, it is much more accurate and compares countries directly.

in general its nomial for GDP comparsons and PPP for GDP per capita comparisons

GDP per capita is more accurate in PPP in terms of local model, however when comparing different countries, nominal is still more correct. GDP should always be compared in terms of nominal.

Er, one's PPP and the other isn't?

Put another way, Japan would be the world's richest country per capita based on the only survey of individual net worth; Hong Kong would be richest if PPP's taken into account.

Or think this - an average haircut in Shinjiku is 5000 yen; a haircut in Central is $100-$200 HK?

China's RMB (currency) is alleged to be 20-40% undervalued.

Imagine if China's RMB was increased 20-40% - her economy would grow by 20-40% and would be nearly the same size as United States.

That's PPP GDP.

Nominal GDP (nominal means just "name") is whatever people want to call it - in China's case, she can determine the value of her GDP just by manipulation. It's nominal, because it's face value of the currency exchange rate....
