I'm not generalizing like Filipinos are the only hospital peoples of Asia, but I think hospitality is very prevalent and very visible in our culture.

Have you eaten? (thanks dragon from the HFGC thread) and Come inside, is like the words that you'll always get quiet quick.

I remember though that many neoliberalist say that this hospitality culture is somewhat negative and old.

What I mean is many new age thinkers say that over emphasis on it, eg remember those people who go on debt to buy feast for their visitors is kinda bad.

Sometimes hospitality nga is kinda bad..
I have this relative, she only brings out the "stateside" goods when there's visitor, pero kapag wala..it's untouched kahit malapit na magexpire.

Yes thats true, but I have also seen some filipinos who are pretty rude to their guests. Well this was in New York, so maybe the city has corrupted them.

This is true but not all the time. I remember reading somewhere about how filipinos think its rude to eat without sharing. Like how we say "kain tayo" instead of of kain ako.

hindi naman always about boasting or nothing, it's just like us its cultural to feel ashame or bad not to have an "acceptable" offer or presentation to guest.

Most Asians were Hospitable not just Filipinos.

maogmang_aki
katangian = characteristics
kapuri-puri = praise-worthy

walang kaso, maganda nga at interesado kang matuto... icon_smile.gif

i quoted that above ekek cuz i know people are going to say that and because what you said is true, i'm not saying it's not, but filipino hospitality, for whatever reason poor or rich, for showing off or for being nice, for most filipinos it just comes natural, whether you show it "plastic" or genuine.

It's only negative if the person on the receiving end of your hospitality doesn't appreciate it or takes advantage of it. Sometimes, Flips and Asians in general tend to be too accomodating. It's in our culture, and there are certain polite gestures that require a reply in kind, etc... A kind word about the host is then passed on to other ears and they receive community recognition for their hospitality, blah, blah...

I've noticed at times that when you add someone from a different culture to the mix, like let's take for instance a haole man. Haole's are seen as an outsider and guest (no matter how long we've known them), and we tend to go overboard with hospitality teetering to the point of @$$-kissing. And, the haole might misunderstand and think, "Damn! I like Orientals! They treat white folks like gods!...How much for your daughter?" Kidding...kidding...kidding...
