I don't think she's the only one. I remember hearing about other girls that left/graduated from J-pop groups and then went on into AV. It's a strange career choice especially for Rina considering that she was in AKB48 - one of the most popular J-pop groups. So it's not like she had no other choices. She could act in dramas or even become a solo artist or something. I guess pornography is what she wanted to do though.

Well, AKB48 fans are all otakus so they're probably not turned off by this at all. In fact she's probably gaining more fans.

When was the last time AKB48 members worn School girl uniforms as customs? I see them more in Bikinis and lingerie now. SKE and NMB girls are still very young and their main custom is based on School uniform, but AKB48 hasn't worn actual Sailor fuku except in movies/PV to play the part of a school girl or on certain concert songs that have a school theme.

Guy, why can't you admit that the majority of their fans are middle aged men? You always have to mention Korean groups don't you? Like, AKB48 is somehow less odd and more justified because Korea has Kara and Snsd. Well you'd be surprised how many young/younger female fans Kara & Snsd have. Certainly way more than AKB48. Females do "like" AKB48, but it's only for their costumes or because the girls are "kawaii". That's as far as it goes with them. I wouldn't call them fans or say that they contribute to their success at all. You won't see them at their concerts or in the audience of any show tapings.

AKB48 songs are often chosen for the most popular Karaoke songs, which is one of the indicators of their wide recognition in Japan. Their fans like the context, history and stories they have. It takes time to get to know about these things especially if you don't live in Japan or don't often check out Japanese media. Even if you don't like them as singers, they are still likable TV personalities. The oldest member Shinoda Mariko is 25 and she is one of the most popular members. The other top popular members like Maeda Atsuko, Oshima Yuko and Kojima Haruna are all 20+.
