I've read this several years ago, but y'all heard that no nuclear, armament or resource accomadtional wise, is allowed in Phils, i think it's amended on teh constituion.
Ek-ek
Yup!

the constitution doesn't state that we aren't allowed nukes. it has even given the Filipino people the option to seek nuclear power and armaments, in any case, once it is deemed important and in the interest of the Filipino nation. but for now, it isn't so it is "technically" not allowed. but it is possible.

edited.. look at Section 8.

you mean interpretation, that would be under the implementation of the courts then. but still, i think current understanding of that statement/prose is that no nukes allowed in laymen's terms.
Forumwalker
it doesn't matter with the current understanding... it's about the current policy.

what do you mean? tehre aren't nukes in Phils is there?

it means that if the people and the government's policy toward nuclear energy/armament is positive, we CAN and WILL have nukes. if not, as is the case until today, then nukes are not allowed whether for power or defense. in one example, Marcos had made a nuclear plant in a place in Luzon(i forgot where). therefore his administration's policy of having nukes in the country was not the same as today where nuclear power of any sort is not allowed in the country.

what im trying to say is that the constitution is not preventing us from acquiring nukes and using it. the Philippines has the policy of freedom from nukes but the constitution does not totally ban it if it is inconsistent to the interest of the Filipinos.

i don't think taht nukes, armament wise will be acquired however. Americans will make sure of non proliferation (biggest reason why nukes are signed like that in the constitution). but sure powerplants i think might come in someday.

don't worry. even if the americans would allow us to produce even just 2 nuclear ICBMs, we can't use that to attack another nation for assimilation/colonization/invasion for that matter. i mean, we can't even control our own borders.. sure.gif

i agree with the won't use that part. i think that the threat if Phils had nuke armament would be accidental firing or terrorist taking it and using it. Phils is pretty peaceful in foreign affairs.

but icbms, wow those are hella expensive, i don't think the Phils would be ever given one of those for "free" or even just sold, due to American demand of non proliferation.

if Phils wouldn't use it anyway what's the sense of having it, it's just further liability.
however i'm not concluded on my thinking about nuclear power. it could be good. but i'd say thermal power (due to Phils subterranean potential0 is much more convenient and safe.

geothermal energy is already very important. there's one in Leyte Island supplying power to Cebu, Bohol and Negros islands. i think it's the largest geothermal plant in the world.
