the military organized society is long dead. but the code of warrior, applied not only militarily, but in society still alive. (roughly from my Japanese professor)
bushido
Indeed, bushido is a set of principles, which aren't only applicable in military, but also in everyday life. One way to study and live by bushido, is to actually study it (college), but also all of Japan's history and culture, for it is there that bushido originates from, and the study of bushido without the history and culture of Japan is in my opinion futile. Another way is to look for sites, but be cautious, there are a lot of crappy sites out there. Try using wikipedia too, it has several useful links, as well as a thorough explanation and documentation of the subject at hand.
