With the population increasing rapidly in Jakarta due to influx of urbanisation from village and other island of indonesia into Jakarta, It's time for mayor of Jakarta city to think and plan the big plan of Subway from now and make that become reality.

Currently the plan to reduce the traffic jam in Jakarta is proposing monorail and busway, IMO tha't not very efective bcoz monorail and busway will not be enough for longer term to support Jakartan to commuthe from one point to anothe location.

Subway is the best solution to accomodate transportation in Jakarta bcoz it will not taking someone land and will be more viable to expand become bigger network without disrupting city aesthetic.

The people from outside java island is always coming into Jakarta bcoz the only place developed is Jakarta it seems region autonomy was being undermining right now it is not really applied in the field It is just rethoric to tune down others island but in reality just lying.

Seems under Megawati region autonomy run better.

Emang di jakarta ada monorail ? Whats your defenition of monorail. In Australia a monorail system is a raised rail system so the tracks are above the ground, does jakarta have that now or is it trains which run on the roads (which we call trams not monorail) ?

I would really like to try the monorail system if they have them in jakarta !

And about subways, yes that would really help alot ! or more overpasses to help cut down traffic. Hopefully its in bambangs plans.

^ Ops my mistake I should write current busway system and planning to implement Monorail. IMO it's not good enough the best solution is Subway.

Good idea.

Improving the transportation infrastructure will not only alleviate congestion but create thousands of jobs.

Jakarta with subway systems ????? laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

On paper this might look good and sounds like a great city plan to reduce traffics and congestions but in reality... this wil be disaster

Think about all the homeless people, gangs, high-school kids, muggers, criminals, and 'pungli' who would hang out there, waiting for their preys ... Not to mention, this would a potential health issues due to poor sanitation, sewer, and moral problems.

Yeh that is true, but this is where a change needs to be done. They have mananged to keep peddlers and homless people from loitering the area around monas right, they can do the same as well with the subway.

I mean true it does look like the prefect breeding place for all that kind of crap but if its kept in check then it will be a good idea. I mean how hard is it to have officers at every entry keep tabs on who enters and who doesnt.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to ride a subway in Jakarta's underground knowing that I am being surrounded by tons of stinky homeless people, muggers, criminals, 'pungli', 'preman' and outrageously violence high school kids.

Where could I run and how would I escape if there are immediately emminent danger from these elements of the society ? It's underground, and there would brick and steel walls surrounding the underground trains. I would be a dead meat there.

Jakarta isn't exactly as safe and as organized as HongKong, Tokyo, Singapore, or Seoul just yet.

Not to forget how unreliable the evacuation or fire safety systems and procedures in Indonesia, both on human resources level and equipment safety & maintanance level.

the 'I'm soo afraid with the locals' mentality is really irrelevant and counter-progressive with the dire need of a better transportation system in Jakarta. If I'm not mistaken, Subway is indeed being considered again- remember it was planned during the Tutut years, but after the big boss 'lengser keprabon', the project was suspended. If I'm not mistaken, together with the current construction of monorail lines, the Japanese will be involved this time.

MRT idling at station, but has green light
Saturday, January 08, 2005
Damar Harsanto, The Jakarta Post/Jakarta

The Jakarta administration is confident that the construction of the ambitious Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) will go ahead.

"Although the project will be partly funded by the central government, we have received confirmation from the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) that the MRT is among its shortlisted projects," Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso said on Friday.

"Hopefully, we can start the construction of the MRT next year."

The MRT will link Lebak Bulus bus terminal in South Jakarta with Kota in West Jakarta.

It had originally been planned that the MRT would run between Fatmawati in South Jakarta and Kota, but Lebak Bulus was chosen as a depot for efficiency reasons. The Lebak Bulus bus terminal will be expanded into the depot.

Sutiyoso said the project had received the green light from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The President, he said, had promised to discuss the project at an infrastructure summit here in February.

Assistant to the city secretary for development affairs Hari Sandjojo, said the administration was preparing a report on the Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal) of the project.

"We plan to make the Amdal available next week to receive public input," Hari told The Jakarta Post.

He said his administration and the central government would form a joint team to speed up preparations for the MRT.

The development of the MRT will be implemented in two stages. The first stage will include the construction of nine elevated stations from Lebak Bulus to Istora in the Senayan sports complex in Central Jakarta and three underground stations from Bendungan Hilir in Central Jakarta to National Monument (Monas) Park in Central Jakarta. The second will comprise work from the Monas to Kota.

The first stage is estimated to cost about US$767.66 million (Rp 7.128 trillion), while the cost of the second is yet to be calculated.

Transportation experts have repeatedly said that the MRT has great potential to reduce chronic traffic jams in the capital, despite its cost.

However, many observers have doubted the success of the project, given that messy underground networks and unstable ground coupled with recurrent flooding in the city might turn the project into a flop.

The project was approved for the first time in 1974. The government was on the brink of materializing it in 1995, after the Japanese government committed to providing funds for the MRT. However, the financial crisis in mid-1997 led to the project's postponement.

The planned subway route:

Nine elevated stations Lebak Bulus, (via TB Simatupang), Fatmawati, Cipete Raya, Haji Nawi, Blok A, Blok M, Sisingamangaraja, Senayan, Istora

Three underground stations Bendungan Hilir, Setiabudi, Dukuh Atas,

Depot at Lebak Bulus bus terminal (three hectares)

Second stage: Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, Jakarta Kota.

Speed : 32 kilometers/hour Initial headway : 5.5 minutes Planned headway : 3 minutes Capacity: 33,000 passengers hour/per direction

Projected demand 322,400 passengers per day in 2009 440,700 passengers per day in 2015

So what ... isnt it time we did start to get more organised. If you dont feel it safe to ride the tunnels then i guess you shouldnt, no one should go where they dont feel safe, but if it is a success and if indonesia eventually build one then your welcome to try it beerchug.gif

Yeh exactly ..... If you feel it unsafe, then dont ride the subways, i mean under your logic the subways will be a gathering place of all the bad people in indonesia, stinky, homeless and perman type people yeh, so if anything it will get rid of those people from the streets and move them into a place which cant be seen (subway) this cant be a bad thing can it laugh.gif

Also remember unless your into shifty business yourself perman wont do anything to you. If you are then you deserve what you get from them. You dont have as much random shootings in indonesia as you do on american streets.

Jakarta might not as safe and as organized any city like Seoul and Tokyo, but much less crime percapita compare to any other big cities in Asia.

Law and order can be managed but traffc congestion have to be found the solution from now otherwise it will be too late.
