I'm not Japanese but I love Japanese films. So last week, I decided to rent these movies:
Zatoichi- Nice story, but the animated blood kinda turned me off. I'm a big fan of samurai movies, and this is probably one of the best I've seen.
Sonatine- Bad @$$ Yakuza movie, Had a tight storyline and kept me interested in the movie throughout. Kinda lagged in the beginning though.
Ichi The Killer- After viewing this, I was wondering if I was on a acid trip or thinking was the director on an acid trip? It was really too weird to even say it was good or not, I thought some of the violence on there were pretty cool, but the movie was just too weird.
Anybody recommend any good Yakuza flicks or some dope Samurai Movies? I've seen alot of the old ones, just need to be up to date with the good stuff.

I read reviews on that, and it seems like alot of people have this love/hate relationship with the movie. I'll check it out though, thanx

Hana-Bi was one of my favorite yakuza movies (not really violent, but more of a drama), Seven Samurai and Azumi were another good samurai films. You'll might not see some of these at any local rental place though

It's a great movie if you don't take it too seriously, but it's good to watch just for the special effects alone.

Thanks guys, I will definitley check those out when I have the time.
I have seen seven samurais in my film class. Great movie and great dialogue. I heard good things about Battle Royale. Brother I've seen. I really liked it, but it's one of Takeshi's worst films. I seen part of Fireworks, it looked really good, yeah, kinda depressing looking. But there's many films I haven't heard of from recomendations, I'll definitley have to check em out on a Blockbuster night fosho. Thanx
oh and btw, why did a white guy have to be the "Last Samurai" huh? That's absurd! Only in America.

dude he wasn't the last Samurai

2 Katsumoto was. He was just there.
Versus is a great film, probably not to everyones taste but it has very cool action and some funny bits. also its like a total dedication to metal XD
Try and see 'When the last blade is drawn' its a Zatoichi/Twilight Samurai kind of style samurai movie and very sad it made me T__T

Japane:
Battle Royale (Takeshi Kitano) - mindfu-k, mind you.
Brother (takeshi Kitano)
All About Lily Chou Chou (artsy)
Spirited away (cartoon)
Cowboy Beop
Ninja Ressurection
Rurouni Kenshin
I'm not a hardcore JapFilm fan, but those were some of the ones I thought were pretty O-K. I really recommend All About Lily Chou CHou though, very nice cinematography

is it just me or does anyone notice that takeshi kitano sort of twiches, blinks his eyes, half smiles, when he acts? theres nothing really wrong with it, but is it involuntary or part of the act?

He had a road accident didn't he? Half of his face had to be rebuild, so that's why half of his face looked expressionless. I think it gives an edge to his characters.

Dude, I just rented The Audition yesterday. Talk about shock value, Japanese got some open minds. I'll never think same of piano wires again. This movie was gruesome, but compelling at the same time. The ending, wow. I gotta say, this was way better than Ichi the Killer. highly recommended!

If you want a real horror or a really, really messed up movie, you probably might not want to watch J-movies for awhile

2 , then see:
- Three: Extreme
- Uzumaki
- Visitor Q
- Bounce Ko Gals
- Go, Go Second Time Virgin
- Guine Pig: Devils Experiment (maybe I should warn him... )
Hmmmm, actually you know what, don't watch those last two. You can see it, but don't say I didn't warn you

. Have fun!

Does anyone know what that movie is called where this one guy is doing some kinda investigation in incest, masterbation, stuff like that. It's like tons of bad things all in one movie. My boy was telling me about this and he says it's a pretty good one.
