Factory Five Racing is the world's largest manufacturer of component car kits.

Nouphone Bansasine (ໜູພອນ ບັນຊາສິນ , a car designer at Volvo) beat out of 700 entries proposed from all over the world

The competition asked designers from around the world to come up with a new lightweight sportscar which the company could produce using a Subaru WRX.
They received over 700 proposals. Out of those 700 they whittled them down to the top twelve (all pictured below). But of course there can only be one winner, and the top spot went to a designer called Nouphone Bansasi. For his work Bansasi received a check for $5,000 and the knowledge that his idea will be turned into something you can actually sit in and drive

Acura Sports Car 2015 (Sponsored by Acura) - “Fusion Experience of America & Japan” In this Funded Educational Project, Transportation Design students will be exploring the Acura premium experience and what that entails in the year 2015. To visualize and design concepts for the Acura sports vehicle with a major emphasis in combining Acura design and performance with non-traditional, non-automotive technology in the effort to create an enhanced, integrated and sensory connection between the driver, their life and their vehicle. Design were inspired by Top Fuel dragster and Japanese sophistication technologies. Project approached were to configure and design the exterior of the vehicle, developed a 3D model from clay and
Alias model of interior. All work was created from preliminary 2D sketches 3D models.

N.Y. Taxi (Sponsored by Design Trust for Public Space )- “Office Mobile Taxi” Project to design a future taxi for New York and Los Angeles. The project was initiated at The Design Trust for Public Space, a New York organization that is advocating advancing New York’s image through design. The focus was on the user experience. Requirements include: Room for 4 paying passengers, seamless wheelchair/child stroller accessibility, long
production life, ability to incorporate low emissions or zero emissions propulsion systems, passengers security and driver visibility. Project approached were to configure and design an interior environment, determine the driving environment, develop ingress/egress systems, create a detailed package layout, configure and design the exterior of the vehicle, developed
a 3D model from clay and Alias model of interior. All work were created from preliminary sketches to 3D models.

It sounds like every car enthusiasts dream machine – a WRX-engined rear-wheel-drive coupe that weighs just 800kg and costs less than $15,000. And it’s a dream that is going to come true.

An innovative competition to crowd-source a new ultra-light sports car by US niche kit-car manufacturer Factory Five has resulted in a number of stunning designs, with one sleek, lid-less two-door coupe destined to become a reality by 2013.

The winning design was penned by Nouphone Bansasine, who walked away with a $5000 and the glory of being able to see his design become a reality.

Bansasine’s design encompasses sleek lines, aggressive haunches and a swept-back stance.
