There is this awesome hockey goalie named Yutaka Fukufuji that plays for the Bakersfield Condors. He's recieving quiet a bit of publicity. Here is an article Yahoo! wrote about him. You can also read his stats here. Just go to the team roster.

He's on the team for my city and he's an extrodinary player.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to say "We love Yutaka" in Japanese. I'm making a poster to carry to the next game I watch! Thanks.

the japanese won't be very happy for you calling him an Asian athlete. The japanese don't consider their achievements as Asian achievements as they dont think of themselves asians.

I don't think chinese or any other asian countries feel pride at the accomplishments of Japan.

oh my god, dont tell me you didn't know that. Do you actually THINK Japanese consider the chinese and other asians as their people?

The japanese are very clear in their beliefs and that is, they associate themselves with europeans more than as Asians.

Its common knowledge. You think the average japanese feels any sort of pride when China or some asian country achieves something?
IniTiaL V.
i would believe so, they are yellow.

walk up to a random japanese person and asked them if they are european or asian

Detuned is correct.

might that be a reason why their immigration policy is so strict?

I'd have to hear it from a couple of Japanese people...it sounds like the Chinazi's who were paranoid about China's achievements being credited as "Asian" where other poor @$$ Asian countries are included...

OMG, no offense.....but it seems that every topic on this forum is always quickly turned in to this racial separation thing. If that's the way all of you keep on thinking, then that's the way it's always going to be. Don't say "the japanese won't be happy with blah blah blah". Stop judging a nationality as a whole. It's sad that every little thing said on here seems to be turned in to such a negative thing. Even if things like this exist, there's no use to keep on discussing it cuz it does no good.
DetunedRadio
actually, most koreans consider themselves asian which is a good thing. all the koreans ive met are cool people even though they can be a tad bit nationalistic but at least they dont look down on chinese or other asians.

Wanting to be more westernized is not the same as associating with europeans.
