helo, people! icon_smile.gif

did you hear the news, the Filipino people are the 6th happiest people in the world!

I remembered once, there once was an e-mail message that is criticizing Filipino people beiong miserables having so many poor people amongst us.

Then someone made a reply and it was also chain-mailed to everyone. He said that it's not true that tej Filipino people are miserable people. They don't have money but event he street children are always smiling and laughing together.

Even poor people are being happy.

Unlike the grumpy rich people of some countries.

Imagine the suicide rate in Japan, the country is economically well off, but the people are suffering sadness just to keep the economy going.

We are happy, I'm happy ... Guess that's what's more important!!! embarassedlaugh.gif2

wth are u talking about? what about inner mongolia?

I'm just saying that it's good that even if life is hard people in my country are finding ways to be happy. That happiness doesn't rely on material things.

It's just good that people can be happy about the simple things in life.

you see, there are many blessings to ocunt its just dat most peopel ignore the beautiful things in life.
Fil-Am
All righty then, it must be because the Philippines is a tropical island, lol.
Forumwalker
we're happy because we Filipinos are so-to-the-max optimistic about life. we don't complain that much. i can only imagine Americans and other foreign nationals in our shoes and what they'd probably do with their life... hehe

on the other hand, us Filipinos although at the brink of economic falldown plus 400 years of colonization and endless criticisms from other developed and even developing nations, still manage to survive and even conquer the world's most powerful nation with our Filipino-cultured teachers, nurses, engineers, scientists, construction workers and even soldiers. The world's greatest and modern buildings may have been planned and engineered by engineers from MIT but it was built by the hands of Filipino construction workers. in short, we are contented with what we have. we aim high but we accept who we are... which can be advantageous for us in the situation we are in.

money can't buy happiness that's true. when i tell people the filipinos are just culturally like that, they don't understand it.

also i'm no catholic, but there was a catholic mass in tfc and the sermon was about happiness and how filipinos despite their economic disability compare to singapore, had a much lower rate of suicide and have a freer society. he relates this to freer society in terms of having no "child" policies and more lenient laws, that don't stress people out.

i know el shaddai (I'm from Manila for crying out loud and I went to a real Catholic school) and it was not. It was a small Catholic mass that was broadcasted in the Phil. Channel/TFC like December time. (Sunday morning)

Filipinos among happiest people’

The Philippine Star 02/24/2005

The trademark Philippine smile has weathered back-to-back calamities, immense external debt, poverty, lack of jobs, credit downgrades and other onslaughts, yet it continues to shine through.

Problems notwithstanding, Filipinos have been rated as among the happiest people in the world — and they are considered the happiest Asians to boot.

This conclusion was based on a study conducted among the peoples of 50 countries by the World Values Survey. The results are contained in a media statement issued by Malacañang yesterday.

In the survey, Filipinos placed sixth among the happiest nations, with Filipinos saying they are "very happy about their lifestyles."

Venezuelans came out the happiest, with a rating of 55 percent, followed by Nigerians with 45 percent, the Irish and Icelanders with 42 percent each and the Dutch with 40 percent.

Filipinos posted a 40 percent happiness rating in the survey, followed by Australians, Americans and natives of Turkey with 39 percent each and the Swiss with 38 percent.

Of the 50 countries surveyed, the Philippines is the only Asian country among the top 10 happiest nations.

According to Malacañang’s statement, "the survey appears to confirm the old adage that money can’t buy happiness." The statement also pointed out that "many of the wealthy countries failed to make it to the top 10."

The World Values Survey researchers also described the desire for material goods as "a happiness suppressant."

"They say happiness levels have remained virtually the same in industrialized countries since World War II, although incomes in those countries have risen considerably," the Palace said.

The exception to this observation is Denmark, where people have become more satisfied with life over the last three decades.

The least happy people seem to be concentrated in Eastern Europe: Bulgarians had a happiness rating of seven percent; the Armenians, Romanians and Russians reported six percent each; the Ukranians and Belarussians had five percent each; natives of Moldovia, Lithuania and Estonia were four percent each; and the Latvians surveyed reported a rating of only three percent

Some countries in Asia are getting better, but they ain't getting happier.

I feel sorry for the East European countries (ex USSR). That proves you communism is not the idealistic utopia it suppposed to be.
Forumwalker
that's because communism deprives a person of his individual needs just to meet the "supposed needs" of the community as a whole.

Ive always felt strange over the statement "filipinos are the happiest people".
maogmang_aki
^uh, that is relative to the state of happiness or being happy of other peoples... i guess icon_wink.gif
RL33
HAHAHa yeah well thanks for that, but i meant that why are a lot so happy despite all the poverty and country's many ills. Is there a stat stating the percentage of happy people in phil and where are they in regards to the poverty line?
maogmang_aki
precisely the point methinks... inspite/despite the poverty, the problems, the crimes, the corruption and the various ills of a sinking country and society, we the sovereign Filipino people still find the time to laugh, be happy and have a good time, rather than sink into national depression or hopelesness.

it doesn't necessarily mean that we always party or so, just that, we tend to face the woes of life, take it on, laugh when we fall, and try again. nor does it mean that statistics will show you a number of faces split into grins, just the general sense of happiness of a people...neither would it be people below poverty or above poverty line... again, accross all.

You can go to an urban place and see people in groups, talking and laughing even when they are discussing VAT and its various effects... or go visit a rural area, the same thing... or visit an exclusive subdivision and still find people laughing and talking and generally being happy.

i guess, it is our ultimate weapon against our situation... GRIN! biggrin.gif

dunno, yan ay aking mga haka-haka lamang...
RL33
hehe well i guess they dont much of a choice it beats sucide and depression any day of the week. By the way is there a survey or statistic on the filipino's view of the future, if they are hopeful or not not?
maogmang_aki
There's been a lot of that type of survey... and most are pessimistic with regards to the future in such a way that they'd rather leave the country... icon_smile.gif
Forumwalker
pessimism is so strong with regards to the economy and the government's ability to serve the people.. but individually speaking, Filipinos look at life at a lighter side... like everything's gonna be ok.. biggthumpup.gif
maogmang_aki
kaya nga isa tayo sa mga pinakamasayahing tao daw eh... ewan ko ba... kaya naman talaga natin na ibangon ang dangal ng Pinas eh...

As an individual, Filipinos are always happy no matter what the economic situation it maybe....
PSP
That's awesome! biggrin.gif
Mulawin
honestly, i cringe with this bull! Filipinos are easy to please, but that doesnt necessarily equate to happiness.. The sorrow is a very much personal thing to filipinos thats why. hence, the result of this crap..I dont think we should be proud of this, i think we should be alarmed...Makes me think if this is also the thing that makes our country go down while the rest of the world unhappily struggles againt their social problems, struggles very hard...

my 2 cents..

it doesn't really fall into the "depressant" category, but it does the same deal as depressant: slows heartbeat and "chill out" system. the term depressant is really now given to stronger chemical drugs.
