I was cruising around a sports website and found this video clip of the TKD heavyweight division finals in the Athens Olympics between Korea's Moon Dae Sung and Greece's Nikolaidis. It was a David vs. Goliath match as Moon was 6'3" while Nikolaidis was a towering 6'7".

Moon knocked out Nikolaidis with a reverse roundhouse kick. I remember the commentator saying, "thank goodness for Nikolaidis' headgear"

Good memories... cool30.gif

Very gracious winner too, I might add!

I need to stop underestimating the power of martial arts. My neck would have broke in that guy's situation.

David vs Goliath?

More like Goliath vs Slightly shorter Goliath.

joe rogan, the host of fear factor and an announcer for the UFC is a 2nd degree black belt in TKD and also became an instructor for many years. He was a four-time Massachusetts state champion, and was U.S. Open Lightweight Champion and Grand Champion in all weight classes in 1987.

at this point, though, after becoming an avid mixed martial arts spectator he was quoted at the last UFC PPV as saying TKD is useless in a real fight

Aw man! I figured that out wayyyy before UFC came out. I took TKD on and off for 5 years, and new at the offset that it was more of a sport than anything else. Hapkido (which I took alongside TKD) was more realistic, and I enjoyed it immensely! It was kinda like Aikido's (took for 5 yrs in Hawaii) evil twin. icon_twisted.gif

Now, that combat TKD stuff that the Korean military practices...I ain't fu-kin' with that!

Damn that was a nice kick. Btw, was all the kissing and hugging for 10 minutes necessary? They should get a room.

TKD is never about aggression or provocation so it's natural the two would have such mutual respect and solidarity with one another even though Nikolaidis, as the famous Chris Tucker saying goes, "got knocked da fug-out!" by Moon.

Taekwondo is all about scoring points. Itz not realistic. I've been doing taekwondo for about 4 years now, and it is totally different from realistic fighting. But it can help you in a fight. All people proficient in tkd are good at kicking cuz 95% of taekwondo is kicking. Kicking ppl will be a big advantage when you fight some white dude who fights using only his right arm.
RiverPlate4Life
Why does he have to be white, brah'?

You got something against whitey?
CulinarYI
well i'd rather fight a white guy than a black guy. asskick.gif-
