GMA declares long Holy Week weekend


President Arroyo on Wednesday issued Proclamation 808 declaring March 26, Black Saturday, as a special non-working day throughout the country, and allows the public sector "under certain conditions" not to work on March 23, a Wednesday.

In issuing Proclamation 808, the President said the people should be allowed to fully observe Holy Week, which she stressed is "one of our people’s most cherished traditions," but without disrupting vital government services.

"Our people must be given the full and uninterrupted opportunity to ponder on the significance of the Holy Week and to properly observe its traditions with religious fervor, without prejudice to public interest," she said.

She also said the Saturday falling between Good Friday and Easter Sunday "has been declared a special day throughout the country in the past."

She said all employees in the Executive branch, including those in government-owned and -controlled corporations, will have no work on March 23 unless the concerned head of the department, agency or GOCC, are bound by the exigencies of public service to order regular working hours on that day.

That is what she called 'Holiday economics'

and the loud hymns they blast on loudspeakers.

there are now shows even on holy week.

really? not just the bible shows and christian related shows?

yup, There are some shows in commercial television but with the advent of cable television .

that's because they're taped in advance, like a few days before it is to be aired. i.e. would be telenovelas

Good news for those people who are going home for a long vacation!

(in my case) I had to use the vacation to type reports to our Professor.
