I have to rely on dhamma talks lately by Thanissaro Bhikku to get into the state of mind they call the first jhana.. raptures are only accessible in a silent retreat and only so tenuous, we're meant to let that go as everything else.

happy? started cooking new year's food at 9pm while his lazy @$$ watched tv.. just before midnight, he left and went to our neighbor's house to eat. came home before midnight just in time to eat some of what i prepared for the two of us. after he ate, he went out and smoked weed with his friends.
i should have gone home for the holidays.
