I'm new to this forum... I'm Viet and I'm married to a laos girl. Her mum really hates viets. She always makes these remarks about viets and how they are rude and violent race... How they are taking over Laos...
What's the go with it? I haven't said anything as she's my mother inlaw and the fact that I don't know the history... What I know is that Viet controls a big part of the laos government and that we've invested a lot money in Laos...

Not sure if you're trolling but it's true that "some" Lao and also Khmer hate Viets for things that happened in the past maybe, but they don't represent the entire nation.

Maybe she is mad that many young Viet girls have to marry grandpa Korean. Because they have a hard time finding a decent Viet man. Sad but true..
we hate thai (siamese) the most. Coz we Lao are the loser.

I think Laos should start building our Xayaburi Dam over the Mekong River. The last time I read that many Vietnamese from the South are very ticked off about it.
Beside if the Dam is built. Vietnam cannot do nothing about it because it will show that Vietnam is intervening in Laos personal affair with its neighbors.

Fact is that: Communist Vietnam supports Pathet Laos, while they were sh!tting on the South Vietnamese govt. It's North Vietnam interest to have Laos as a good neigbors. Otherwise China and Cambodia will sh!t on them.

One thing about the Viets you should tell your inlaw is that we value mutual respect. We respect them as much as we want them to respect us. Disrespect goes both ways as well.

Smart Vietnamese should not blame Laos for wanting to build Xayaboulie dam, because it's too far from the Mekong Delta. Smart Vietnamese should blame themselves from over populating. Blaming themselves for over populating their farmland land. Basicially, Vietnamese communist government should re-educate viet pop of what condom and contraception means. So Vietnam can export more rice and have enough for its own citizens.

Lao is of course Viet good friend, after all we are one in the Dong Duong Union (in the future), there is no way i could hate Lao, their natural environment is good, they have more iron mines than us, have more bronze mines than us, their resources is richer than us, i prefer they stay that way, cos accelerate the grow rate could damage the natural environment.
Building that dam(n) Xayaburi would harm the environment, incredibly... so i think Lao people should rethink about this matter, you can buy our nuclear technologies after we mastered it in about 2015, there is no need for water energy.
Co-operated with Thailand and China could improve Lao a lot, but it is not a good option as it can damge our good relationship, and farther may have great impact on Lao peaceful era, so as real Vietnamese of Dai Viet, i recommend Laotian not dip your hand too deep into this matter.

Talking about over-population, Vietnam is only the third most populist country in SEA (2010), way behind Indonesia and starting to fall behind the Philippines on the growth rate. Thailand is only ~17mil shy of Vietnam population. Vietnam's pop. growth rate has slowed down due to the population control law that forbids a third child.

Are you kidding me? Thailand got almost twice the land, more arable land to growth foods; But has 24 million less mouth to feed than Vietnam. Amount of land to growth rice in Vietnam in shirking every years due to land being used on various developments. What i was trying to say is that don't blame Laos Dams, when you won't have enough water to growth rice for your own citizens. You need to blame drought, blame god, blame over population and your commies govt.

Why should we be angry? Their is nothing wrong with telling you my personal opinion here since you're curious about your mother in law. You should be tell you're Viet friend here on how to respect our opinion because this is obviously your own personal topic.
Also, I'm quite confused about why some of you're Viet nationalist buddy here are so envy and hateful against us. When was the last time did any Laotian ever post anything negative against the Vietnamese? Obviously that hate and envy are coming from you Viet. We Vietnamese have many thing to do with Chinese culture, i assumed that there might be something similar but it is as far as Thailand and Lao, Myanmar and Thai, American and English.
Asean.asia is famous for his personal racist ego, so you should enjoy his performance instead because you ppl are not giving enough attention for him. Gobears is a nationalist, so he'll say whatever he feels right for his racist country.
Beside, i'm not S.Vietnamese, i live in the Northern Borders (i also have a house in the Southwest, so i also know about Khmer and their arrogance). Trust me Chinese arrogant is unbearable but at least it is not as Laotian and Hmong arrogant. (personal experiences)
For example:
+We Vietnamese are growing Opium poppies along the border and even dare to bring that trash into our country to murder our own people.
+Vietnamese Forest thieves, cut down some Viet forest along the border, they armed to the teeth with advance weapon, sometimes even killed vietnamese forest guard.
+Vietnamese over-hunting our precious Saola since we connected the forest to Lao's national park Xe Sap.
+Vietnamese dogs and cats eater.

Vietnamese aren't known to be hospitable, but we are trying our best and make Viet a better place.

When was Vietnamese ever hospitable ppl? Obviously they are known for being a hot head and inciting personal reflection on other because we don't give enough attention to Vietnamese. Beside this topic is way out of hand anyways.

vietnam only invest in Laos about $2.7 billion for the past decade. And don't assume Vietnam did it alone, you better thank US, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korean for investing and helping you out. And did you know 2012 Vietnam external debt is $32.84 billion.

Also I would like to add the future of Vietnam intentional insertion of their country among the S.E.A to realized that Vietnam is actually trying to build up military, and other mass destructive weapon that can later be used in the future. Which might threaten the whole region and ASEAN. Obviously, Vietnam is using ASEAN for its own power hunger, and insertion of political cause against China rise as it main focal point in Asia. China need to contain Vietnam before they build up its military in front of China door step. It is not too late now.

Lao Pho are different from Viet Pho.
The difference are the broth in which Viet uses Dog,Cat or even other exotic animals from the forest. Not too long ago, Thailand save hundreds of dog from being transported to Vietnam just this mouth!
Poor dog! They are man best friend and not for eating!!!While Lao use Beef,Chicken,Turkey,Pork as our broth with rich species, herbs and sauce.

If China absorb Laos into its own kinship. Then China would double it strength in the region and beyond. Which is why Vietnam always keep an eye on Laos personal business with China. Of course, Vietnam always a brown noser over looking our shoulder. lol

I know a few Viet who buys Dogs and Cats from the animal shelter. And they even buy pet puppy and kittens from the pet store for raise and eaten later on.
I know about this because I've seen it.
