Full Version: Do we have erotic arts?

I collect Chinese and Japanese erotic carved figurines. Do we have similar objects in Vietnamese culture?

edit: we have a lot of historians on this site yet no one can tell me how sex education is passed down in pre-industrialized Vietnam? If there was a system in place, why is there no proof of this process manifested through artistic endeavors such as sculptures, literature, or drawings?

Are you asking about ethnic Kinh or just people of Vietnam (including minorities) in general? 'cause if you're talking about ethnic minorities, I can provide you some right here embarassedlaugh.gif

Now if you want to talk about sex in Viet/Kinh culture...I'll tell you tomorrow. tongue.gif

Particularly Kinh but I'd like to learn about other minority groups' portrayal of intercourse as well--of course all residing in VN. I'm quite surprised about the dearth of actual artifacts to portray the passion between men and women. Is it because everything was recounted "orally" (no pun intended)? I'd love to get a hold of some Vietnamese artifacts/antiques when I travel to VN but I have no idea where to look. beerchug.gif What are some of the most important artistic achievements of the Viets? Did we thrive in a certain handicraft tradition (lacquerware, carvings, etc.)? I see mostly vases in museums but what else is there before the arrival of the French or pre-1900? All of the wooden stuff imported to the states are cheap junk that fall apart when the glue hardens so I don't consider those objects "artistic achievements".

amazing!

Not erotic enough. It's too masculine to be considered a portrayal of the sensual feminine form.

looks like anti communist pictures, i'm not interested in politic, so i'm not interested in them.

I agree. There are simply too many beautiful things in this world to capture. Those paintings are very technical but it's something for the European market. I'd love to see him doing a painting of a little boy chasing dragonflies or a beautiful street scene in VN during the rain.
