Briton, Filipina wife sued for disrespect to Philippine flag

ANGELES CITY--The uproar among Filipinos here over the alleged "utter disrespect" a Briton and his Filipino wife showed to the Philippine flag has reached the courts, the first such complaint raised against a foreigner in this former American base town.
Officers of the Mimosa Golf and Country Club Association Inc. based in the nearby Clark Special Economic Zone filed administrative and criminal cases against Ronald and Amelia Judd on May 19 at the city prosecutor's office.

Four Filipino lawyers, who are members of the association, are taking on the cases that have been set for preliminary investigation. The lead lawyer is Ricardo Sagmit, a delegate to the 1971 Constitutional Convention.

The affidavits submitted by Allan Dungao, Simon Mangio, Amor Gorospe and Risellino Juan Bernardo Soto said the Judds remained seated and ate their food during the entire flag ceremony before the start of a golf tournament in Mimosa on March 5.

They said the couple also ignored hand gestures asking them to stand up and join the rites.

Florentino Mercado, another Mimosa member, approached the Judds and asked them to "give respect" to the Philippine flag but his appeal went unheeded, the complainants said.

This pinay should be ashamed of herself because just because she is married to a British, she's showing disrespectful to the flag of the country of her birth. They should be sent to jail. But that pinay has no really respect to the flag which she's been pledging since she learned how to read and write.

Or that pinay didn't attend those flag ceremonies every morning when she was still in school?

A message to this pinay if ever she's in this forum:

"You may not show respect to your government, but at least show respect to your flag because the flag is the symbol of the Filipino people."
