As I understand it, Indians, similar to Chinese (my ethnicity), try to balance their food so that if there's "heating" food, there's "cooling" food to balance it out. (This is not referring to temperature, but rather to a food property... For example, in the novel "The Death of Vishnu", someone says a mango is "heating" while a banana is "cooling" ... But it's not like a mango's temperature is hot and a banana is cold like ice cream.)
Is that right?
So anyway, a problem I have that I hope you guys can help me with is, what foods do you consider "cooling"? What could I order in an Indian restaurant that would be "cooling"? For Chinese, all spicy food is "heating" ... Is that also what Indians think? So what is "cooling"? I neeeeed Indian food, but can't eat it that much if I only eat "heating" stuff.
Okay, does that make sense? LOL.
Thanks for your help to let me know what are "cooling" foods that I can order at a restaurant.

Hmm okay... Yeah i guess heating food would also be spicey
food. Cooling food would be sweet food to neutralize the spiceyness.
And if your mouth is really on fire i recommend a good ole glass of milk
Seriously, that helps the best

Seekhand, is like indian pudding with variety of fruit flavors.
Jalebi = fried sugar rings covered with honey
Gulab Jambu = reddish sweet puffs in a sugar sauce
i dont really eat too many sweets though i love Mango Juice or Pulp.
there are too many sweets to name i dont even know half of their names. just pick a variety pack of sweets at your local indian/paki grocery store.
