Who?

And don't say Hikaru embarassedlaugh.gif2
Jaimu-Jaimu
Very few.

Ayumi is probably the one who holds a note best. The actual ability to sing is not such a big deal in Japan so much as looking pretty. icon_redface.gif
aZnRiCeChiQ
i like namie auro(sp)
chynagongju
Whoever sings those Bleach songs.
supernovasp
Ayumi and namie amuro?

embarassedlaugh.gif
Jaimu-Jaimu
Urgh Namie Amuro...

Ricey's "excellent" taste continues. icon_rolleyes.gif embarassedlaugh.gif

Well I guess Utada Hikaru can sing , maybe malice mizer.

Misia has a voice, and so does Nakashima Mika

What are the differences between chinese and japanese songs besides language. Seems like chinese songs are more romantic.

icon_confused.gif She's ok but best voice is pushing it.

Megumi Hayashibara has a good voice and although you can't find much of her stuff, I'd say one of the better singers is Maaya Sakamoto.
meiki
Chihiro Onitsuka has a fine and uniquie voice too. And the female singer of Garnet Crow, I think her name is Nana Azuki.

Are we only talking about female singers? If not, then I would say, well, there are a lot of good male singers in Japan. The people who sing in bands and solo's.

Yea It feels like Japanese male singers that can sing are more than the females one.

If only I actually understood japanese , maybe the songs would be more enjoyable.

I'm not a fan.

Good point from Supernovasp, male singers in Japan are much better than the mass-produced non-talent females.

Generalising a bit but it's true! tongue.gif
blatant
gackt. no kidding.

Not very many can hold a note. The ones who can hold a note tend to have weird voices or whine. bawling.gif

So out of a lot of people, the best non-whining, non-weird voiced, in tune people are DOUBLE (the one left is a good singer), Crystal Kay (even though she's not Japanese at all, it's like cheating), Nakashima Mika, Chinen Rina (I think she could do a lot better with better material), Akino Arai (because of her small voice...it's hard to not be in tune), and Sakamoto Maaya (same situation as Akino Arai).

If Kubota Toshinobu didn't have a weird voice, I'd put him. I don't know why all of the J guys I've ever heard who try to do R&B have voices that turn out like that. confused.gif
PiNk MaFiA
namie amuro
mika nakashima- so good at the jazzy stuff....listen to "fake" from the "legend" single
ryuichi kawamura-ex-luna sea-my god that guy can hold a note
gackt
kokia

I'm sorry, Amuro Namie has good producers but her voice is really out of tune.
I like Amuro Namie and all...but her voice sometimes...anyone heard "Himawari"?
Maybe she has gotten better, I haven't heard more recent stuff.

Interesting you should say that. I think one of the reasons I like JPop so much is the fact that I don't understand Japanese. I can concentrate on the singer and music without worrying about the actual lyrics. Sure, I can pick out words here and there, but I just really like the way the language sounds and especially when it's a female singer. The female singers sound so elegant and cool. Nothing against male singers, I just think the ladies capture the essence of the language better. Although L arc en Ciel and Gackt are both really good and unique.

Lol, the essence of the language, that does sound gay, but I don't know how else to say it. embarassedlaugh.gif2
meiki
I actually also wanted to say that Hyde and Gackt voices are really good and unique, but Gackt has an awesome voice even in lives, through the whole concert.

damn you jaimu
now I've got VoE on rerun in my mind
....it's weird how different the series was from the movie

ANYWAY

I gave up on Japanese singers, talent-wise, a long time ago.
I still think that Kiroro are the best singers, but I largely prefer Korean music to Japanese.
Strangely enough, I have heard 3 songs of Kiroro's covered in China, so I guess I'm not the only one who thinks they sing well.
meiki
I know there are really good and really interesting voices out there in Japan. But some haven't sung good songs yet. But I like Chihiro Onitsuka, Mika Nakashima, Gackt, Hyde, Hitomi Shimatani, Rurutia, and lots of other singers and groups.
Maybe because you gave up on J-singers you don't hear the good voices of the present. What a shame.
There are good Korean voices too, same with chinese.

Misia. She has a voice that'll rival diva superstars like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera.

And Tomiko Van from 'Do As Infinity' is pretty good as well, especially when you consider that she never had any formal voice training or coaching before.
YoungOne
Utada Hikaru - Has a great voice
Namie Amuro - Can not compare to Utada Hikaru, but still beuatiful
Koda Kumi - I like the emotions she uses in her singing
Gackt - Nothing much now, but I liked his voice in some old Malice Mizer songs
Klaha - I don't know why I like his voice.

I completely agree. Nowadays I'd much rather listen to Korean singers than Japanese. J-Pop isn't so concerned with the voice as with appearance etc.

Saying that, I think J-Pop 10 years ago was excellent and SO much better than the stuff that is churned out nowadays...I would recommend more people to listen to old-school stuff than the more mediocre stuff nowadays. icon_redface.gif
PakJunSeung
None can sing , can we say computerized?
meiki
Wow, one said she or he rather listens to K-pop than J-pop, cause Korean singers are less concerned with appearance than voice?!
Hell, no! Both countries have their good and bad singers. And I still think J-pop still has many good sounds. And more variety than K-pop.
PakJunSeung
K-pop is alot less computerized then J-pop. Plus J-pop is too out there.
