I've been trying to think of a Korean that is known on a worldwide level...what's sad is that the only person I can think of that people recognize is the North Korean dictator Kim Jung Il, and that's just because he's a nut. icon_neutral.gif

I honestly can't say I know the name of the South Korean president at the moment. (is it No?) icon_redface.gif

If BoA expanded to places outside of Asia and touched up on her English, maybe she could be. shrug.gif

Am I having a brain fart?

Can anyone think of some Koreans that are famous globally?

World-wide for you means American media. As far as this goes, I can't think of any Koreans that would fit. However, when it comes to Chinese, I'd say Bruce Lee (though he is 1/8 German)

The Sun Myoung Mun isn't well known to mainstream Americans, but he's another person/wacko who comes to mind.

"World-wide" for me, in this case, refers to anywhere outside of Asia.

Sun Myoung Mun might actually be the most well known, now that I think of it. icon_neutral.gif

If I'm remembering correctly, he had a big cult-type movement where he implied something like he was the brother of Jesus or something (not sure how it goes) and he had followers in the USA and other places. The followers are called "Moonies" because of the "Moon" part of his name. I think...

yeah, it's gotta be Kim Jon Il. He's like the spark of the news nowadays.

I agree. His infamy is undisputed.

Say BoA. She performs all over the world.
NitaKang
Hands down to Kim Jon Il. Most Asians know BoA, but most non-asians in the Western World who aren't in contact with the internet wouldn't.
Mid-Night_Sun
my 1st thought was Boa
Jaimu-Jaimu
^ I still agree.

I know that she gets alot of press in European newspapers (Not so much English) and you can always guarantee that when it comes to any kind of political figure, most people won't know who they are anyway.

reverend moon also. hehe. the funniest thing is i saw a pic of him leading a "free Nixon of all the charges" rally after the Watergate.
Rocky Cuong V
people who don't give a crap about north Korean wouldn't know Kim Jong Il.
chynagongju
But he's probably the most famous. His name is known. If you read the newspaper, you'd know him. I doubt most adults know BoA.
aZnRiCeChiQ
