I haven't noticed this. Competitiveness? No...sadly, most of the Filipinos I know are messed up. As in they're into drugs, do badly in school, just drink and party and have sex all the time. The one girl who I"m pretty good friends with who's Filipina told me that out of her whole family [including extended], she's the only one with the potential to actually graduate college, but she just got kicked out of her house and now I don't even know if she's going to return to school. The thing is, she doesn't even seem to care. She gets a new boyfriend all the time, she's never without one, and she leechs off of them. Car, house, whatever. She's too into her looks, now into the hard drug scene so I hear, and yeah.
I don't know. My friend's gf is Filipina too. And mostly, they have no real desire to reach higher for some goal in life. It's mostly "eh if I can get by" then it's fine.
Don't know if that's just me or what, but that's what I've been seeing.
I have no problem with Filipinos, but the general stereotype here is not good at all....
Then it’s probably just you and your “friends”. Because I don’t know any Filipino American that’s like that into drugs and “sexing” around. Filipinos are mostly religiously conservative. Go visit jails in California, the majority of Asians that are in jails are Indochinese people (Vietnamese and Comadian gangs).

Asian GangsMajority of the Filipinos that immigrate to this country post 1960’s are professionals like nurses, doctors, and engineers or seek higher education not friggin boat refugees or illegal immigrants seeking cheap jobs. This country needs a lot of nurses, that why you’ll see a lot of Filipino nurses, dentists, and doctors in American hospitals. They mostly come here legally not as illegal boat refugees. As for intelligence, Filipinos have inventors and scientists such as these:
Filipino InventorsOne of them invented the moon buggy that the Apollo Astronauts road on in the moon and we have scientists and engineers (most were educated in the Philippines) that work for NASA. Most of the Filipinos here, they or their children are mostly educated and contribute greatly to the economy. Don’t believe me? Go here:
"New York City's Filipino Americans have higher incomes and more education than other New Yorkers overall"Education of Filipino AmericansEconomics of Filipino AmericansFilipinos as well as Indians from the Subcontinent can easily assimilate in this country because they speak english as an official language as opposed to other Asians and some East Europeans I’ve seen who are trying to learn english as adults now. Filipinos have been living in North America for 300 years now longer than other Asians except for Native American Indians. Filipinos have $52 billion dollar purchasing power and contribute a lot to the economy
“Filipino-Americans have a combined purchasing power of over $52 billion annually nationwide.”Some start their own business and hire Americans and not take jobs from Americans like the father and daughter company that runs this winery in California:
“Vineyard has Filipino touch Father-and-daughter team own and operate Eden Canyon Winery”Or the CEO Filipinas woman that runs this American grocery store chain in Northern Illinois:
Butera Grocery StoresMy late grandfather ran his accounting firm in Chicago a long time ago thus providing jobs to Americans and he was smart in mathematics and chess and and he spoke 5 langauges fluently, French, Spanish, Tagalog, English, and Visayan. Many of my Filipino American workers play chess and are real good at it. I play with them often. 43.8% have bachelor’s degree like my family, 60% of Filipino Americans are property owners like my late grandfather, or my mom and aunt who owns some real estate property in Florida and Las Vegas. Filipino Americans are also the richest just after Japanese Americans and Asian Indians. You can check all these sources here:
US Census on Asian AmericansQUOTE
The lowest individual poverty rates were for Filipinos, Japanese, and Asian Indians
QUOTE
Japanese, Filipino, and Chinese had the highest proportion owner-occupied housing units 61 percent, 60 percent, and 58 percent, respectively).
So, don’t paint a few bad Filipinos you've "met" in the same brush strokes as all Filipinos and I won’t do the same for other ethnic group. Just because the Philippines is poor doesn’t mean Filipino Americans will be poor and leech off of welfare here in the states like refugees and illegal immigrants.
